So I wanted to go off and play as and adventurer since I had grown bored with my empire, I disinherited my Heir's second son and set him as favorite child so I could play as him and have some fun galivanting around Europe again. Things were going fine, doing contracts and enjoying the slow life, but then suddenly about 15 years later, Boom, empire inheritance pop-up and about a million people with a weak hook on me. Turns out both my father and brother had died and the throne had passed in acclimation to one my other kinsmen, who, as it turns out, was not liked enough by the denizens of the empire who had mostly banded together in a faction to put ME on the throne. That's when I checked my character and saw I had claims on EVERYTING my father had despite being both Disinherited and having Galivanter.

So my Question is, IS THERE ANYWAY TO PREVENT THIS?! What is the Point of the Galivanter trait if you can still get thrown back to your old Empire even if your half-way across the globe!

I can't stop myself from having the claim, (bad game design btw, their should be an option to give up claims to prevent situations like this, or at the very least an option to deny when a faction tries to give you a title, at least for the Player character) and i'm not in a position where I can get my character castrated/blinded. So is their anyway to get out of this situation? I don't want to have to use the console since this game is achievement compatible and I had more I was going for.

There is a minor decision called reject inheritance that you should be able to take as an adventurer that prevents you from inheriting titles but I don't know if it will stop you from getting titles because of a claimant faction. If you still have an earlier save you could try that.

Galivanter is the trait that is given by that decision, and yes as I have unfortunately found out it does not prevent you getting titles given to you by faction demand.

What I'm trying to find out is if their is any other possible way to avoid the situation I'm in, as I have no way of getting rid of the claim I have, that is allowing a faction to form, to put me on the throne of the empire I left. Even if I go back on my save I will no doubt end up in this situation again eventually whenever my characters father dies again.

As far as a I know, there is no way to prevent getting titles from a claimant faction.

Since your character's father and brother seemingly died early, trying again might result in a different outcome.

The Father didn't die early, he died naturally, its just that he inherited the throne at 54 because my last character lived to 80. The brother being alive, I'm not sure would matter since the guy who is in charge currently is a better character than him lol, the brother has less diplo and has sadistic, so I think he would get thrown off the empire as well.

God I'm now realizing why palace politics is such a trash tradition lmao, ( I wanted the Roman Flavor, but I guess having that is biting me in the butt now)

Oh well, I might just be screwed here. I'll either have to go back and jump to someone else on succession or maybe end this campaign here I guess :/

Is there a distant relative who doesn't have and won't inherit a claim you could play as? I don't remember if favorite child only works on your literal children but the choose a new destiny feature should offer a wider selection of characters to play as.

Oh their are many, its just that I wanted to play as the Character I had Crafted to go on an adventure with.

I just think at this point its a shame that, I can't just... give up the claim, I don't want the throne, and no one should make me take it.
This kinda stuff limits storytelling potential you know?

Mod idea to solve this - and possibly adoptable by the devs - .

"Refuse" throne : available for 6 months after receiving a title, allows abdication to the next heir and removes all existing claims you have within the titles you have abdicated.

Alternatively a minor decision "Disclaim title", which allows you to remove a claim you hold at a cost of some Prestige, based on the title level.

I'd actually do this a bit differently: if you get the option to refuse after you already got the title, next heir in line may be your own kid whom you may not want to go rule anywhere.
I'd probably make "Disclaim title" option available before the faction has won, and give player an event with agree/refuse options once the faction actually wins (but before actually transferring the title). If the player refuses to take title upon faction's victory, then the title either passes to the heir of current ruler, or to the factions strongest member or something like that.

Since cheat mods don't mess up achievements, you could use a cheat mod to make your father or brother immortal, play with your adventurer character the way you wanted, then when he dies and your new character (presumably) doesn't inherit any of his claims you can use the same mod to kill your father/brother and let things play out like normal back home.

join the faction yourself and just never press demands. you become the leader instantly regardless of your military strength and only you can press demands to the liege and no one else

Egh... I don't think I have the will to continue this run at this point, might as well take this happening as a sign to rap it up here.

I'll take a break from the game until Khans comes out, thanks for all the suggestions tho.

(Dev's Please consider doing Something about this, give us an ability to give up claims or deny getting titles we don't want from factions or something along those lines :/ )

You could go back to playing as your dad and disinherit the future favourite kid

I really think you should just bug report this. It feels like Galivanteer should block being the claimant of an install faction.

There are tons of things that are just oversights. For example, how requesting a court position with a hook does not protect that position for 25 years like a council position.

Ok, I've posted a Bug report.

I highly doubt it will do much tho, for some reason I doubt this is a bug, and more of just some dumb gameplay reasoning on their part.

Still never hurts to try tho I guess.

There should be more interacts with claimant factions for titles outside your realm. Refuse the title, accept it if the faction wins, or join the faction as an ally attacker.

When you are actively trying to hold yourself back and the AI still caters to the player like this. . .

You can't even roleplay this game to make it more challenging anymore.

"Dear NPC, I really don't want to be ruler." -- the gamer

"NO NO! You must! This world is not the same without you." *hugz n' kizzez* -- Your NPC rival and claimant faction leader who wants to install you on the throne
