I've been trying a long time to figure out how to stop a rival country from trading in my CoT. The manual says that this is possible, but doesn't provide any real instructions. Someone please tell me!

We have updated our Community Code of Conduct. Please read through the new rules for the forum that are an integral part of Paradox Interactive’s User Agreement.
First of all you have to have trade level 4. If you have that you simply go to the diplomatic map and click the "Forbid trade" button (or whatever it is). Keep in mind that this will give you -1 stability and they will have a CB against you as long as you forbid trade with them. Another side affect: Your trade research gets a little slower, but just little.

The reason I ask is that in my current game Spain has a trade embaro on 12 different contries.... it's not the special event either cause other contries are allowed to trade.

Note that a trade embargo only prevents new merchants from entering a CoT. Current ones are in the "Black Market" and must be removed via normal means.

ie are there other countries that doesn't have greyed out merchants in the COT ?
I've seen Spain trade embargo quite a few countries too if u play long enough. It's plausible though 12 is much.

Is it easier to gain a stability level back at -3 than at +2? I've never let mine get below +1 ... I've seen France refusing trade against 30-odd countries all at once, and this very early in the GC, and I don't see how they could recover 24 stability levels that fast.... come to that .... I don't understand how they can refuse trade at all, when the ledger shows I have a better trade tech level than the French, and I don't have level 4 yet.

There is an event that does exactly that for a limited time, whithout ANY penalties.
Don't confuse the two.

I had some doubts about too about spanish embargos. I saw three of them in perhaps 40 years (I mean general embargos). I was wondering if they actually had 3 such events (but I forgot to look at their stability). Do you know if some countries are more likely to receive a specific event?
I don't think so, however certain monarchs have special "skills" that make ceratin events happen A LOT more often.
Perhaps it's the explanation. I played 20 more years and there was 2 more spanish general trade embargos ( I forgot again to check Spain's stability). I don't believe Spain is *that* lucky, indeed...
