I have 5 females and 5 males ready to have children (from Dome's hint), for a few sols already, but no children appear. How does this mechanic work? How soon after reaching min comfort will children appear? and how many?

it has to do with your comfort level i *think* it needs to be grater then 70? for people to have children the infermery will drop that number tho
No. I specifically said about the people who are willing to have children - it means their comfort is above minimum.
Don't know the actual speed, but the comfort is not binary, if you just barely over the minimum they will only make babies slowly, more over the limit = more and faster babies. Later you want to stop them from making anymore...
