How many generations will you control in CK?

This has been bugging me a while. There are references in info dumps and interviews about your family, and if you don't have a viable heir when your current "champ" dies then you could lose the game.

So what about champ's cousins and aunts and uncles? Does the game have to progress linearly down a single line of the family tree?

I hope not, and suspect not due to the family tree representation the game will include. Any thoughts?
 
My guess is that you just control the family members who inherit the family name/kingdom/whatever. So, maybe just the one son who inherits the family title and bulk of the land. Usually the oldest son, I believe.
 
It seems strange to me too. What if you have two sons who are both after their father's throne - most likely (after the father dies) you become the eldest son. But if the younger sons kills the older one, do you automatically switch to the other one (because he's part of the same dynasty) or does the game end (because your legitimate line has ended)?
 
As I see you will continue playing always you don't forget to set a heir, if the Monarch is childless and while any member of your Family who didn't renounce to his claims is still alive :p

From the snowball site.... I thought family trees and such were going to be done on the fly in the game... unless I am missing something with the 1000 historical characters...

At the beginning of the game the monarchs have to have a lineage so you can tell where the family ties are. So I guess the start of the game has 1000 people listed in the family trees of all the monarchs who are in power from the beginning. After that it becomes dynamic according to the flow of the game - who marries who, who has children etc. :)

Myg uess would be a that you do not lose the game whn a direct line of heirs dies out, but you continue with the nearest claimant.:)
 
I was thinking the opposite - if your direct line dies out - you've lost. Perhaps it's more subtle, if your direct line (that being the line when you die) dies out, if the best claimant isn't already on the throne somewhere else, then maybe you go on.
 
This is my first time to this forum and I am curious whether you will ever be able to be a monarch or ruler of an entire nation. It seems that if you choose your marriages wisely and though some events or luck, one of your descendants will eventually end up on a throne somewhere.

Well, supposedly you can only play those dynasties that already have a throne... ;)

Duh...I posted that question in a moment of extreme confusion. :)
 
I think you control only the Hig Seat of the House or a choice of claiments to the title As High seat you are in charge of the members of the house with same control or sligthly more than you have of vassals.
