this is a bit off-topic but as I suspect it has the same problem I ask it here,
are the cultures hardcoded too, if not which files should I adjust to change them or create new ones, as I feel like being in a maze with all those files and still not finding what I am searching for.

In advance many thanks

The number of cultures is hardcoded, but in the 'vanilla' game some culture-tags aren't used.

You change the name of the culture in
Crusader kings/config/world_names.csv

Code:

Some tags can't be used, like Norse, Teutonic, Templar and Hospitaler

There are 'dark' and 'light' cultures, so you get 'dark' or 'light' coloured characters

Cultures that are 'free' are

'light'
- None (yes this one can be used)
- Byzantine
- Eastern Slavic
- Iberian
- Celtic
- Ugric_baltic

'dark'
- Abghazian

Say f.e. you want to add the Breton-culture and you want to use the 'Celtic' tag for that, then change this

Code:
CULTURE_CELTIC;[COLOR=Lime]Breton[/COLOR];Celtique;keltisch;Celta;Celtica;;;;;;x

In the game-files you will need to use the name 'celtic', in-game you will see it as 'Breton'.

If you want to give characters in the 1066-scenario, Breton culture you edit the 1066_scenario_characters.inc

Code:
character = {
	id = { type = 10 id = 178 }
	name = "Hoël"
	gender = male
	dynasty = { type = 12 id =311 }
	father = { type = 10 id = 10042 }
	mother = { type = 10 id = 10043 }
	country = BRIT
	religion = catholic
	[COLOR=Lime]culture = celtic[/COLOR]
	score = { gold = 100 prestige = 100 piety = 100 }
	birthdate = { year = 1031 month = january day = 1 }
	deathdate = { year = 1084 month = april day = 13 }
	dna = "99867379198229"
	attributes = {
		martial = 8
		diplomacy = 8
		intrigue = 8
		stewardship = 7
		health = 7
		fertility = 5
	}
	traits = {
		harelip = yes
		charismatic_negotiator = yes
	}
}

If you want to give provinces in the 1066-scenario Breton culture you will have to edit: 1066_scenario_provinces.inc, provinces are identified by their province-ID. Look in Crusader kings/db/provinces.csv for the ID-number, f.e. Rennes is province 101

Code:
province = {
	id = 101
	[COLOR=Lime]culture = celtic[/COLOR]
	religion = catholic
	privileges = {
		peasants = 2
		burghers = 1
		clergy = 1
		nobles = 1
	}
	loyalty = {
		peasants = 1
		burghers = 1
		clergy = 1
		nobles = 1
	}
	improvements = {
		hill_fort = yes
	}
	advances = {
		hill_fort = yes
		chained_leather = yes
		handaxe = yes
		slinged_javelin = yes
	}
}

And you also need to add, Breton character-names in
Crusader kings/db/character_names.csv, they have to be in this format

Code:
celtic;female;Yuone
celtic;male;Alan

There are already a couple of mods, that add cultures like. So if you don't want to do all the work yourself you can use on of those :)
- DVIP
- TASS
- Before the Conquest

I really should know this, but what is the problem with norse culture? I edited it in on one of my characters for a laugh, and it seemed to work like the others.

You can't add characternames to it, Norse-culture characters get their name from the Norwegian-culture characternames.

So if you f.e. want to use the Norse-culture tag for lets say, Albanian culture, all your Albanians would have Norwegian names

Remind me, I know I used to know this, but NONE defaults as Turkish (sprite), right? Does a name-list work?

The Norse tag, how do your Norse-Gaels get named (if the game can't read the name list)?

NONE-tag indeed uses the turkish-sprite. The names-list works without a problem.

Code:
none;female;Zyrako
none;male;Alban

In my Before the Conquest-mod, I use the SWEDISH-tag for the Norse-Gaels. The NORSE-tag will always take its characternames from the NORWEGIAN-tag nameslist

Sorry for bringing back such an old thread, but I didn't want to start a new one.

Can you add a change the name of an unused culture/add characters/change the culture of proviences on an already existing game by modifying the save file? If that's possible, how would I go about that?
