I have played a few campains and the grand campain ( up to a point) a few times.
But I never can stop the inflation from going up and up. Usually when I lose the game the inflation is about 15%.
I never have a monthly deficit or borrow money so I dont know the reason.
Can anyone help me?

thanks

That's actually the problem: you don't have monthly deficit. Every penny from your monthly income that goes to your treasury makes inflation higher. If you send all your monthly income to treasury, you will gain 1% of inflation per year. If you send half, you get 0,5% etc.

Just try to spend less and give more money to sciencis and stability.

And if you get level 5 infratructure, you can promote governors: each of them decreace inflation 1%.

Deflation!

I'm playing Austria, in the 1550's I had 26% inflation. I was dealing with rebels in newly annexed Hungary. It was a pain. Suddenly, as if by magic. It dropped to 2%. It made all the difference, allowed me to finance a huge war against Turkey. :D

Set your monthly income to zero. You will be putting all of your monthly income into research. Of course you won't be able to raise an army in the middle of the year , but believe me you will be ahead in the long run. You still get your annual income though. As far as inflation problems for me is when it is about 1710 , and since I have maxed out every tech possible the computer forces me to take the monthly income for which I have to promote mayors for the next 90 years to keep it a zero. That part kinda sucks. I wish there was a "good ruler" option as far as maybe cutting taxes in this game , or the ability to give back to the people. I don't know something like that..I guess I am juast rambling here.

yeah inflation is a pain. I think paradox over looked couple of things concerning inflation. First of all, inflation result from money being put into circulation. This is why when you take out a loan, put money into treasury, and having gold mines you get inflation. So, why don't you get deflation when you give gifts, paying reparation etc, after all you are taking money out of circulation. Same goes when you get them. Kind of make you think twice about DoW on China for war reparations. That 2K ducat should be able to wreck hovac on your economy. Just my 2 cents.

It takes awhile to get governors but once you do your inflation woes are over, at least until the endgame. Set the treasury slider to zero and make infrastucture your number one priority, and rember that inflation isn't that bad if your economy is staying ahead of it.

I'll try to follow the advices. Actually I already did and in spite of my wars I managed to keep inflation at 10%, which still seams very high to me.
But what exactly are the consequences of high inflation in the game? Less stability?

thanks to all

Inflation raises prices ... fortresses cost me 126d, cannons were 70ish, infantry cost near 15d ...

I set my treasury to zero to try to keep the inflation increase to a minimum, so I didn't have a ton of cash on hand. About 200 for the year. When rebels pop up, disasters, etc. It costs all your money to deal with the problems. It definitely puts your expansion in a stall if not decline. :(

How odd.
High inflation = more money available but everything is more expensive.
Low inflation = less money available but things are cheaper. Ok they are cheaper but what difference does it make if you wont have the cash to buy them in the first place?

So if you need to raise a big army one would have to live with high inflation, no way round it.

Speaking of Austria/Spain, what's the highest inflation people have seen? With what country?

112% as Scotland, in 1792

I had been forced into bankruptcy by a war with England, and had 5 gold producing
provinces (Monterrey, Yukon and the 3 Siberian - I stoped the russians short of the Ob(?) )

Also, to pay off loans I was often forced to used high Treasury levels :(

I finshed in 6th place - just behind England.

I finally realized that I needed to pay off England, as I was never going to
beat them.
