Hello I havnt written anything in a while so here I go again. This isn’t going to be the most original post so excuse me. I know there have been ideas like this before. Power and presage by ryo for example. The idea of rewarding certain kinds of play via leaders, money etc has been used often, especially incentives for war. What ive tried to do I is a SIMPLE reward system to what I consider ‘good play’
Ive made some assumptions from the start.
-people like manus and change the way they play to get them
-spending money on manus is the ‘worst’ of hyperteching practices as it takes vital money away from waring and other more entertaining things
-part of the problem with lack of aggressiveness in the game is due to lack of ambition.
- the main 2 causes of gangbanging are
1 too much trust of your fellow gang bangers so that the fear of them becoming too strong (as would happen in real life) is diminished as people don’t tend to turn on their allies.
2 lack of diplomacy in games especially from vetern players with 2-3 games a week and especially at the end when lethargy kicks in
There is a bad boy system in the game of course which is rather good but isn’t quite harsh/rewarding enough to influence such experienced players who know how to handle it. Id therefore propose a similar system to encourage what I see as ‘good play’ something like this for example
Giving 6 months warning before dow (this includes joining an ongoing war) +1
giving untimatum/stating demands before dow and not exceeding them +1
Making total surprise attack or joining alliance mid war without such warning -1
Fighting a war only to secure independence of an AI nation +2
Breaking truce -1
Turning up 15mins late for session -1
Not turning up to session without warning -2
taking large amounts of land in 1 single war (eg more than 3 provs or 60ws?) -1
annexing an AI nation(would like to see europe not annexed before 1600) -1
taking part in blatant gang bang (this of course may be hard as is debatable what a gang bang is. I think most agree on a blatant gang bang but this may not work) -2
buying manus would be offlimit. A goods, trade, or fine arts would be awarding for every 5 rep points (or something like that anyway) military tradition could also be awarded for weapon and naval manus. Something like the following.
Fighting a war +1 per opponent fought
Winning a war +2 per win (no matter what the winnings)
I think ill stop there. I think this post is as much about what in my opinion is good play as it is a proposal for reward system. I do think that something should be done to encourage aggressive, selfish and honourable play. By this I mean that games go more like history. I think most people like ‘realistic’ games. I think one of the main reasons games don’t go like history is people are less inclined to argue their position as they are to whine as you can quit this game and always get a new one, unlike real life. I imagine eu period politics was much like a game really but one they took more seriously of course even than we do our beloved eu
