Hi everyone,

I'm trying to play this game MP together with a friend of mine and I've looked up how to do so because it's everything but clearly stated anywhere.
Anyway, I've read that Valkyrienet is no longer available so I'm wondering how you can play a game without Valkyrienet...

What do you need in order to play via internet? (where you have to type in the IP-adress of the host) because whenever I host and he tries to join by typing my IP adress in the box where it's supposed to be typed in, a message box pops up saying that the game isn't able to find a game at IP-adres *** and that I should check IP-adress and Internet Connection. I'm not really sure about the IP-adress either but I'm wondering how I can, step by step, play a game of MP...

Thanks in advance.

You need to "open" (or "forward") certain ports in able for people to join your game. For EU3, it is 1630-1636. For Vicky, I'll assume they are either the same or close. You can go places like www.portforwarding.com to get guides on how to forward ports.

Also, you need to make sure your firewall is allowing the players to access the game, or else they'll get the "game not found message".

I'll ask Blackmist about which exact ports need to be open.

Ok, thanks for your help. Let me know once you know which ports we'll need to forward and I'll look into it.

Greetings,

Rosas.

These ports:

2300-2400
28800-29000
47400-47700

All those need to be opened.

Ok, so I forwarded these ports using a simple program.
But how do I know which IP-adress my friend should connect to?
Should it be my Gateway-adress or any other ? (perhaps using CMD IPconfig in DOS?).

And also, what if my friend would like to host a game, and doesn't want to forward those ports, would it work if he simply (temporarily) disabled his Firewall? (both on router and Windows)

Thanks,

Rosas.

You should use your IP address assigned by your service provider not the gateway address assigned by the router.

If your friend wishes to host or play he should, in either case, need to open the ports on the router. Disabling the firewall isn't really a great idea but you can allow Victoria to play through the firewall by adding it to the safe programs list in the firewall settings.

Even if you do all this right there is the chance you wont find each other. I found the simplest way was to disconnect my router while playing mp as even though some people could connect with it up others couldn't oddly. So if all that doesn't work and its an option disconnect the router.

Also some people need to use the third party program called Hamachi to make this work. It creates a virtual private network that makes connecting less problematic. You just both join a network you create and use the Hamachi IP instead of you service providers.

Yes, but disabling my router wouldn't be a possibility if I'm not playing on the computer that's directly connected to the modem, right? We have a network here and I'm the second pc connected to the modem. How do I disable my router then?

Also, where can I see that IP-adress? (I believe my IP-adress changes all the time ...)

Thanks a bunch,

Rosas.

Google "what is my IP". Sites will come up telling you your IP address.
