How to update CK2 to the latest patch?

After not playing CK2 for a long time I have decided to update it to the latest version, but it's not supported on Gamersgate (where I've bought it) anymore and was migrated to Steam. I found some old posts with the instructions, but when I have tried to get Steam codes from Gamersgate site, it keeps reporting an error saying that they have no more Steam codes and that the developers have been contacted.

Not sure if the information about the migration I've found in the forums is up-to-date. Is there something else/different that I need to do?

It certainly has been a while since you played as the GG version was deprecated 5 years ago!

You've stepped into a bit of a minefield I'm afraid! A few years ago GG were taken over by new owners, and since then have been uncooperative in the extreme; they don't even sell our games any more. They were and are supposed to supply you with Steam codes for your CK2 base game and all DLCs you bought from them (which we in turn supplied to them at no cost), but if you get any out of them at all you are lucky, from what I hear!

I can fill you in with more detail on the dispute in private if you like, but in essence we gave GG codes for all their customers on request, yet they mysteriously have 'run out' and will not supply them any more, blaming us.
