I am wondering, how would you intend to arrange your own demense provinces verus fiefs? I mean, do you intend to scatter your own lands all over your own Empire? Or do you have an island in each corner of Empire? Or grouped together like Austria for example?

Which would you pick and why?

I think that I will be going with grouping my own land together and possibly making islands (3 provinces togther, for example.) I would do that because, it would make it harder to conquer my land if I could create another army in one province while rebels/enemies are attacking another. Also, it makes it a good staging ground it it border on another country. To me being scattered like nobles of Norman England under William the Conqueror is too easily fall if there are any serious rebellious nobles and harder to defend it yourself. Being scattered is only good in a very large Empire that is loyal since it would be much harder for the enmies to take all of your own land where if lands are grouped together, all need is a good thurst.

Perhaps there are more merits to another choices than I thought? Hmm...

I will simply take the ones with most wealth :D

Agree with de Caesar. A core of provinces, maybe 4-6, and then take most of the best land, unless i need someone loyalty badly and have to give up some good stuff.

You know, I still do not understand this. So do you have direct control over your non vassals? Because in certain situations that is just not true- Byzantium had dukes of certain areas, and the Thematic system was decentralized, but the central Beuracracy was all powerful, almost to a Socialist extent.

A computer game my friend..is not reality..and ..without any unforseen advances in AI and programming never will be..although..i drool at the idea of what games will be like in ten years..or..omg..20..that is if we r still a viable species..

historycaesar's model. I'll keep a very strong core of provinces all linked up, and little outposts far and wide with only the richest of lands.

Sound logical and wisest to me.

In a small country I'll keep a central core of the wealthiest provinces. For larger countries the same as everyone else, a core and some satellites. If I make enough money for a crusade I’d also take the richest province(s) I can:D.

Now, gentlemen...

You all seems so sure that we can choose as we like what provinces to keep in our demesne... But is it so? Was it so?

I'd guess that to be able to claim a province as your demesne you need a strong claim to it, right? What if you conquer a province and one of your dukes have a stronger claim to it than you do? Wouldn't claiming that province to your demesne severe the relationship to a powerful vassal? ;)

Well... um.... er... I'm the king... yeah, probably something like that will be implemented. However, being the megalomaniac I am...

Oh, and assuming we were correct, how would you arrange them, Havard?
From that assumption I'd try to do as so many other here - keep a strong, rich core and maybe add some "sattelites" in strategic positions...

A variet of satellite regions; Lombardy, Ile de France, Antwerp, Constantinople, and maybe Budapest. Plus a central area encompassing a region stretching from Hamburg to Bavaria.

If possible yes. I suppose there will be different stragegies for each and any nation. This sounds like the middle road strategy which may or may not be suitable.
