I got a message that the new Austrian king has been elected HRE. When was the vote? How come I wasn't asked? My country's still Catholic!

BTW, I know the trumpets are a diplomatic message, but what the hell is the lyre sound? I've looked around for a strange message but couldn't find one. What is the lyre supposed to mean?

Well, are the Spanish and Austrians the only candidates?

Right now, I'm playing as Bohemia and I control most of central Europe and I'm allied with Brandenburg (who has about 6 or 7 provinces). Also, most of the rest of the HRE, I'm on good terms with. I figure I should've been elected by now.

U don't have to be catholic to vote and u don't actually get to vote. It's the relations of the members that count.

OH. SO there is another reason to keep your relations high other than to try to diplo annex them. Btw, what exactly are the game benefits of the HRE? Austria has had a weird history in my GC. They declared war on Venice - makes sense - they want a port. BUt in the middle of their war, Hungary attacked them. TO make a long story short, Austria is now missing two provinces -one to Hungary and another to Venice. It is now the weakest major out there.

Every (CR)-catholic can be voted in. As HRE u can march troops all around the HRE in wartime. It's also gives u 50 VP and above all, it's mighty cool being the Holy Roman Emperor.
