Hyperlanes are the default FTL method of travel due to dev stuff. Having finished The Interdependency Series I realized that The Flow is a form of hyperlane and in the series there are hyperlanes that are short-lived, unstable, etc.

What I would like to know is if it's possible to make it such that each hyperlane needs to be "explored" before it can be used, much like how wormholes need to be explored before being used. If it's possible I would very much like some help on how to design a mod for it.

They already need to be explored before use. That's why a leader in a science vessel has to go through first.

No, hyperlanes are open for use at any time. To illustrate, if you have Crystalline Sensors or Gravitic Sensors a Corvette can explore one system at a time.

Considering nobody has replied that it is possible to do this, I feel that this idea of mine is not meant to be

It's almost certainly impossible. There's little to nothing that can be modded about how hyperlanes work, aside from the speed at which you travel them.

Having to explore them one by one would probably also become old really quickly.

I was afraid of that.

It would, however, allow for the exploration phase of the game to last more than the first 25-50 years. I was thinking that Auto-Exploration would also handle the 'hyperlane exploration' part and any irregularities in the hyperlane would produce an anomaly.
