I just got two CTds in a row, different dates, while at war. Of course my autosave is from before the war

I think we all share your frustration about CTDs. All I can say is that if you're prone to them, set a frequent autosave, and maybe try to figure out what's causing it. Otherwise, you're out of luck.
I have it on a 9 month autosave, think that is lowest, but both times i had to go back to a pre war save. this is as briatin, mobilizing, moving, restrengthening 100+ divs...nothing repeatable. Dont remember why the first time, but second was as I accepted a peace treaty.
I've had problems with peace treaties in earlier patches, but it got fixed; which patch are you using?

After a crash, check your history file (victoria\history.txt) and see what the last few entries are.
And rename the avi folder to avi_old (or delete them totally) The binkplayer used for the intro movies can causes CtDs.
Thanks for your tips. I'm playing 1.03 b, i guess may 15. Is that a real patch?

1.03b is an official patch although it only has beta status (ie not guarenteed free of bugs) You must have upgraded to 1.03 before you apply 1.03b.
You can tell the version by looking atthe top right of your screen when you are on the main game page (where you select single player/multiplayer/exit).
