Currently playing a "Doge of the Hill" game with 3 other players, inspired by Arumba's playthrough. I'm not sure what the specific version of CK2+ we are running, but the checksum is MMRS, and we are running the latest version of CK2. This is my first time using CK2+, and I've understood most of the changes, and agree with them, but some of the others I am confused, and not entirely sure if they're WAD, glitched/bugged, or that I just entirely don't understand the change.

So first off, the details of the game:
Checksum: MMRS
DLC: All main DLC, including ruler designer
Starting place: Republic of Gaeta
Starting year: 1066, William the Conqueror (I think)
If you need more info, just ask.

Question 1: When in Trade Zones view (shortcut G) and I expand the Trade Post view on counties so that I can see who owns each trade post, if I click on a county, it often highlights an adjacent province. What does this mean?

Further clarification. I click Logudoro, and it highlights the sea province of Cote D'Azur, Arborea the Mediterranean Sea, and Cagliari the Coast of Sardegna. Now, with this, one would assume that clicking on a county would highlight its respective (sea) trade zone. But, if I click on Capua, it highlights Napoli, and Napoli highlights Capua. Amalfi and Salerno also highlight each other. Click on Gaeta. Nothing. This could just be not entirely understanding how trade zones and such work. Some clarification by someone with greater knowledge than I would be useful.

Question 2: Why am I not the owner of a trade zone Golfo di Napoli? I have 3/5 trade posts.

From the way I understand trade zones work, whoever owns a majority of the trade posts in a trade zone "owns" the trade zone. I am not currently the Serene Doge, but I own the trade post in the capital (Gaeta), Amalfi, and Salerno. A different house, the Serene Doge, to be exact, owns the other two trade posts in Capua and Napoli.

Question 3: The top doggie currently owns the Republic of Gaeta and the Republic of Capua. When he dies, the new top doggie inherits the top-tier title (The Serene Republic of Trinacria), the Republic of Capua, and the Grand City of Gaeta. The former Serene Doge's designated heir inherits the Republic of Gaeta, and the rest of his father's titles. Why does the new Serene Doge not inherit the Republic of Gaeta instead of the Republic of Capua?

More clarification: Before Enrico de Vio became the top Doge, he owned the grand cities of Capua and Napoli. During his time as the Serene Doge, he conquered Palermo, satisfying the requirements for the creation of the kingdom level title Trinacria. He then also created the duchy title for Capua. Oddly enough, when I hover over the titles of the Republic of Gaeta and the Republic of Capua, they are Open Elective and Patrician Elective, respectively. In contrast, when hovering over the Serene Republic of Trinacria and the Grand City of Gaeta, you see the "Expected Successor" instead. Shouldn't the Republic of Gaeta have this as well? And, as an experiment, if I destroy the title Republic of Gaeta, the new Serene Doge inherits the Republic of Capua, and if I destroy the Republic of Capua title, the current Serene Doge's designated heir inherits the duchy of Gaeta, giving the new Serene Doge no duchy level title. Ideally, upon the death of the current Serene Doge, the new Serene Doge would have the Republic of Gaeta title, and the former SDoge's heir would inherit the Republic of Capua.

Question 4: Why is there no specific view for which family owns which trade zone, considering Vanilla has it?

Or, more specifically, why is the Trade Zone view technically only the family trade zone view, considering there are several trade zones which the entire Merchant Republic owns, but is not highlighted since no one house has the majority.

Alright, I think that's all I have for right now. Much appreciation to whoever takes the time to answer my questions! Thanks.

Most of your questions are in one way or another hard-coded, but I will address to the best of my knowledge;

  1. afaik it's denoting some sort of trade zone control, but honestly I am not sure. Either way it's not something we control
  2. We have no control over that one and frankly even I wish I knew how exactly that worked haha
  3. Possibly a bug, based on your extended explanation. A save might be helpful there.
  4. That map mode seems to be gone, not something we could add or remove either way. Even when I load into vanilla CK2 it's not there, though I do know what you are talking about.

1. Hmm... Alright then.
2. Would it be possible that somehow Gaeta does not belong to the trade zone? How would I check that?

4. Oops, didn't realize that. Sorry to bother you with that question haha.

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions!

I can answer your last question. While in the trade view you hold ALT to see what family controls the trade zone.

I'm thinking about running a 'top doge' game but with two (or more) republics and more emphasis on intrigue. How is it for you? Do you have any pointers/house rules and you've implimented to make the game more fair?

Right now, intra-republic intrigue hasn't been much of thing yet. Mainly just seducing wives. We didn't really set any specific rules, just kind of agreed to not be dicks to each other with intrigue, at least in the beginning. We are just now 50 years into the game, and one thing I've noticed is that if you all band together, it's really easy to balloon. We started out as Gaeta and are now 15 counties in the course of 50 years. If I hadn't been in 2 regencies lasting more than a decade each, we probably would be even larger. At this point, we might start helping each other less, since we each have established power bases, and don't want to help anyone get too powerful. However, we are now getting to the point where we are starting to make deals between each other and such. Our current Doge is thinking of rigging the election, however I've warned him that some of us may not be happy if he does that. SO far, we've been keeping each other at bay by focusing on other land and such, and perhaps trading cities for gold, so no one has to hire mercs (to trade, we just gift gold x amount of times, and then declare war, and they surrender immediately).

R (to trade, we just gift gold x amount of times, and then declare war, and they surrender immediately).

I always forget that annoyance still exists. Might go about adding some sort of (player only) diplo action for that.
