So, Imperator: Rome 2.0, it has convinced me that the game is going to be something for me going forward.
And I also see that the game uses art more than ever, both CK3 and I:R, which to me is always welcome.

So the background paintings, they are beautiful, but few. So I decided to do something about that, at least try, so I found the folder with the DDS files(Background art) and tried to find the right format etc.
Why?
Well I have dared to, and tried at least to make more of them, starting with one pilot project painting.
My idea is to offer them for free, to help flavorize Imperator: Rome.

The only question is, is it good enough, and do people want to implement it to the game?
I have no ambition to make it even permanent, I dont dare believe my work is that good, but maybe they can be fillers until Paradox own artist's can get some time to expand this area themselves.
In other words, kick out my art with their own later.

So lets see it, well yes but one thing, for this pilot project I chose to stick close to the Kingdom Government background art, staying in Hellenic culture/faith style.
I want to make art for many cultures and faiths, but only if this Pilot project is good enough and actually gets implemented to the game.

I had to guess the size according to DDS info, so I saw 800x256, guessed it was pixels, and put in a 300 pixels per centimeter.

I really really hope the community likes it, and wants it, and maybe even Paradox?

Anyway,
Here it is:

I say keep going, even if it's not used by the devs I am sure someone would love to make a mod with your artwork for extra backgrounds.

(I kinda want that decor in my own living room tbh)

Here is the kingdom view already in game to compare.

Also, compositions and cultures and be changed for other works, if anyone wants it in the future, I just sticked close to work already in there to make it comparable.

Love it. I haven’t looked at how to mod art in yet, but I’m guessing it’s tied to culture and government? I’m not sure exactly where you intended that to go, but to me your art looks like it’d be great for the autocratic Greek states (not the Hellenistic kingdoms, but the smaller city states and leagues). If you’re up for it, the biggest hole is the Indian kingdoms, which use the same art as the Hellenistic ones.

As someone with absolutely zero artistic skills I find this adorable. :)

I actually thought it could be an alternate Greek Autocratic/Kingdom background. But yes, the Greeks have plenty of flavour at the moment.
I could make India my next project! :)
if there is enough support for this, I could make a road map even, and make this a quest to make all culture groups have unique backgrounds. Maybe later even unique ones for factions.
I am just glad you and the others who comment here so far liked my work! :) Thank you!

Simply great :) Honestly, if that would have been released with 2.0 I wouldn't have been able to tell "ah, those are the ones are from devs" and "hmm, but that one is fanmade". For my taste the quality appears similar and it also matches the ingame style.

Really nice! You should definitely continue! Art really helps with the flavour of the game, and having more cultural and government specific backgrounds would be great! You should make a mod out of this.

Aside from India, the steppe/nomads are really under served in this game.

Paradox could run a user submitted art competition where fans design artwork for thrones rooms and the like, and the most popular get added, kinda as a nod to the fans that stayed dedicated to the game alongside the devs. (I know they're reading this )

Wow thats gorgeous. Paradox hire this man! This game needs more artwork like this and not only the lion and the man with the spear
Haha thanks! If they would hire me it would feel like winning the lottery, my favorite game company, but I see this as a success just because people actually like it.
If they would implement it into their game, that would be like winning the superbowl, or world cup finals, even if I give it for free.
If they would accept even more of my work, for free, into their game I wouldnt believe it.
Hired me, well, now that I dont dare to dream.

But in short, I appreciate all the compliments and support you my fellow gamers give me. Thank you!

Ok so, it's 08:55 and im on my way to work (not art related job), and I have been thinking.

Regardless of Paradox, if they see this work as valuable or not, even if it's for free, I will make an Autocratic/Kingdom background art for India.

I just have to find time to do it.

But of course, I'll make plenty more if this gets popular enough, it's work(art is fun most of the time) so I need some extra motivation and reason to make many backgrounds. :D

Have a majestic day!

Have you considered making this into a mod?

A mod would be easier to view and test.

I've done some flags myself. But well... I've only done like 3 or 4 flags so I'm not releasing them yet.

Well I dont exactly know how I would do it, especially locking the images to specific cultures and even specific goverment types.

Anyway, if interest is high enough and Paradox dont see it as useful themselves (or the correct way to implement new content), I might create a lot anyway for mods. If there is a demand for it. Its starting to look like there is though, so thank you all for the likes and compliments! :)
