Good news: Ryazan has proper unit graphics now! :) How did I manage that? Well, I had a look at Granada and found they have improper graphics, too - European style. So I simply interchanged Granada and Ryazan everywhere and now it looks COOL!
I also did some other changes Rapahel and webbrave recommended and already sent the new files to Doomie (may he return soon ;)).
In the future we will have to concentrate on:

- Province issues (owner changes, religion, population etc.)
- Diplomatical issues (relations, alliances, vassalizations etc.)
- Troop strength issues (including building costs)

I will put up seperate threads for this to keep things tidy. Monarchs and leaders will still be discussed in the leaders thread. :)

Just to add to what I posted before:
If we would agree on replacing the Dutch shield, and there would be too much detail in the proposed shieldo make it presentable in the game, then maybe it's an idea to use just the inner part of it, which also resembles the original coat of arms, used by the House of Nassau (just the one lion).

After starting the game I noticed that Ingermanland (Ingria) belongs to the Teutonic Order and not Russia. That is wrong AFAIK.

Rgds,

Johan

About Ingermanland - I looked at four different map sources for the period and there is no agreement. That is, one indicates that the area was part of Novgorod, but that would be just prior to the game era (1478). A second indicates it was inhabited by an advanced 'Finnish' culture (preliterate). A third has it controlled by Sweden (which was a vassal of Denmark). A fourth also indicates that the southern half was Russian and the northern half was Swedish territory.

I think there is sufficient doubt as to real 'ownership' to justify allocating it to the Teutonic Order on game balance interests. Also, all the maps indicate that the Order did control land at least as far east as Narva and clearly the area was heavily contested as well as difficult to settle and exploit until the advent of more advanced technology and better social organization.

I tend to agree with Savant here. Generally I think that the game designers reached a quite good compromise between historical accuracy and gameplay concerning the Baltic region - they were not so lucky with other areas.

I intended the new 'IGC province thread' for discussing stuff like this. Please use it. :)

Didn't notice it until now. I replied there. :)

About the Dutch flag - I read somewhere that the colors indeed did change due to the orange field's tendency to fade at sea, and that it was somehow harder to see at some distance (again at sea). The text I read (which I can't recall the origins of) stated that the red-white-blue version started out in unofficial use by sailors who wanted a more practical symbol than their older fading ones, and that it took quite some time before the change became official. I know this doesn't settle which version we should use, but I tend towards using the older orange version due to its correlation with Dutch nationalism.

Hmmm I did some more research about the dutch flag:
From 1477-1572 the flag was red with a yellow lion in the middle. The lion holds a swort in one of his hands...
And then from 1572 on the orange-white-blue flag...
@Oranje: can you confirm this?
Ah by the way, here is the link were I found it: http://home.t-online.de/home/v.preuss/fnieder.htm

Doomie´s still not here and I have made some minor additions:
- implemented McGuinn´s great new Ayutthaya Shields
- gave Russia CB shields on the northernmost Uzbek provinces (so they will not stop there).

Did the following this evening:

- Kaffa to Turkey (Kerch back to Crimea)
- Ingermanland to Russia (level one colonly but with a level one fortress so it´s not too easy to conquer and with 6000 Ingrian natives). A CB of the Order is still on it.
- enhanced leader file of the order in partial compensation for loss of Ingria
