Version 1.8 of the IGC is now released. The main new features are tools for patching in the new nation names and selecting playable nations. So, no more text file editing is necessary.

As always, it can be downloaded from:

http://www.ludd.luth.se/~doomdark/EUproject.html

(Apologies for the ugly web page, I really should get around to doing something about it. One of these days...:))

Just installed the 1.08 version, but neither the patch.exe nor the ICGConfig.exe programs work. I ran Patch.exe and a DOS-type window opened briefly, but no changes were made to the Config/Text file (I checked). Also ran the ICGConfig.exe program; again, a DOS-type window opened briefly but no menu poped up allowing me to configure the game. What's up?

I have a separate EU installation that I use for the ICG. I uninstalled/reinstalled it to see if that changed anything, but still no luck.

I don't mind doing a little text editing. Could you post the necessary text changes for the 1.08 version? It appears from the readme that there are a few substantive differences between 1.07c and 1.08. I'd like to get started.

I found the text.eng file in ICG 1.08. I has the following tags:

IRA;Uzbeks;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X
GRA;Serbia;;;;;;;;;;
TRI;Granada;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X
CYR;Ayutthaya;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X
BAN;Ethiopia;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X
HEI;Greece;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X
KAL;Novgorod;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X
MAH;Dai Viet;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X
KUR;Pommerania;;;;;;;;;;
PRO;Transylvania;;;;;;;;;;
ROY;Ryazan;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X
TUN;Hafsid Empire;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X
FPR;Protestant France;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X
SAR;New Spain;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X
SPR;Ragusa;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X;X

If I manually edit the config/text file to make sure these tags are present, will the ICG work properly, even if the patch.exe program did not? In other words, my assumption from reading the 1.08 readme is that the only function of the patch.exe program is to do the tag edits, so if I do those myself to match those in the text.eng file, then everything should work fine. Is that right?

You have the 1.8 version of the IGC?

I didn't know it was out. The DL link is not updated to reflect it, unless it's only at Doomie's page. Hmmm...

I can't help you with 1.8 as I am on 1.7c still. But if you follow my instructions in the 'bug' thread, it should still apply.

I've reinstalled EU plus the 1.08 patch plus the ICG 1.08 three times (in that order), but the patch and config programs still don't work. (Thanks for your suggestions, though.)

It's late. Maybe inspiration (or a new download) will come tomorrow. :)

@Olaf: Which version of EU do You have? In fact, if patch.exe doesn´t work for You, You simply can open the file text.* (where * is the proper extension for Your language version) and edit the info You find in here manually into Your text.csv. Sorry for the inconvenience. :(

I've achieved to tweak the files to get a more realistic game. If anyone interested, I will send it by e-mail. It works with 1.07 and certainly 1.08 IGC.

I will post it in the depot today too.

main changes:

Minor nations don't anymore win the tech race...

England and france colonization is delayed. Portugueses one is enhanced.

Money at player and AI disposal is reduced, leading to a diminution of army size.

Negative stability levels are very penalizing.

it's a new version. I've mostly this week-end lowered monarch skills of minor nations... not a good solution, but at least, even if never patched, the tech oddities are gone... and EU is IMHO much more realistic and complex. Very proud.

To all: I can't send e-mail to anyone as the forum doesn't seem to work properly.
My e-mail is :

lfavre@cybercable.fr

drop me a message and I will send you the file.

Olaf,

I am truly sorry that the tools don't work for you. There is a small chance that they won't work with really old versions of Microsoft Java, such as might be the case if you use Windows 95/Internet Explorer 3, but I am not sure as I have not tested it.

I figured out my problem.

Did you get the programs to work, and how?
