I think it would be a great idea to immortalize and honor his name in Surviving Mars. Name a Research Institute in his name etc. I know everyone can name many things on their own, but having something permanent would be super.
Since he often warned against the danger of a competent AI replacing humans, probably not.Hawking BioRobots....the ultimate melding of man and machine
But he did always emphasize the need to start colonies on the moon, Mars and eventually in other solar systems because, we seem to be on track to make our planet uninhabitable in the long run. So actually, the game as a whole is already spot-on.
What I would love, are more challenges with that theme. Although it might not be possible without a DLC / Expansion.
For example, the earth has been hit by a major crisis and large portions are life threatening, so suddenly you are faced with rockets and rockets full of people wanting to live on Mars. They would land rockets without your permission. and just more or less invade your domes.
So the challenge would be how to deal with this huge number of people.
This is, where I can see the Hawking Dome can really shine.
I guess it would be possible to try to shoot the rockets down as a draconian measure. Maybe with the anti-meteor lasers. Although, I like that there is no military in the game and you would have to solve the problem in Hawking fashion... with your mind. This could be something like an end-game crisis.
But it could also be happening as a multi-step mission, not unlike something from the tropico franchise: that events on earth make your sponsor demand certain deliveries from you threatening to cut your funding, if you don't deliver, and offering rewards if you can exceed their demands.
It does not have to be deliveries from Mars to Earth, though. They could demand that you take x amount of people (whose traits you can't choose) because their country was hit by a catastrophy.
Granted, I might be taking this too far, and also, this might belong in a feature suggestions thread, but this idea was triggered by thinking about Stephen Hawking. So I put it here.
A Sponsor.
