So my character has recently become the Duke of Iceland, which is problematic since the interface on the left of the screen seems to cover up the majority of the western part of the island--I can't even see the heraldry on that portion. Is there any way to see that part of Iceland, or an in-game way to remove that part of the interface temporarily that I've somehow neglected to see?

Maybe about half, yeah. But when there's a Crusade happening (and the flag covers up more of the upper left part of the screen) . . .barely anything. I just raised some troops from that westernmost province, and now I can't move them.

. . .has no one else had this problem?

Everyone does, unfortunately. We've just gotten used to it as one of the quirks of CK.

The banner only covers it graphically, you can still click through the crusade banner .... so if you want to select your troops in the western province, drag a box across it to be sure you get it selected.

To access the province screen, just click where it used to be before the banner covered it up :)

Sadly the map was another thing that Snowball (the original russian developer) FUBAR'ed on this game, and I guess something Paradox didn't have time to fix before release.

Although this particular mistake was somewhat more so Paradox's mistake for moving the character portraits (and thus that honestly annoying Crusade banner) to the left of the screen. I'm sure there's a reason they did though. Then again, Snowball could've made Iceland a little less cramped in the corner, or not included it at all :p.

or they could have included enough blank space around the edge of the map so all provinces would have been easily visible and not "hidden" behind the interface.

I think they did it so the very small northern russian provices were easier to get to.

Well on some of the Northern Finnish and Russian provinces it's quite a small area, but the problem is mainly that it's hard to click on the shield. Also, both coasts of the Red Sea (and maybe the south end of the Persian Gulf?) are annoying to get to, since you need to hide the message log in order to click on them.

This is something I hope will be fixed in CK2. It should be easy enough to just have some extra space around the sides, and to be honest, the location for Iceland probably isn't geographically accurate anyway, it could just be moved east a bit. Comparing the UIs of Vicky and Vicky2 (planned) though, I think if there is a CK2, the UI for that won't take up so much screen space either :p

I was figuring the same. Since many of the Russian provinces are playable and likely of more interest to players, it was honestly the understandable choice.
