Anyone know why it's practically impossible to arrange a marriage with Ironborn. In the books and in the history of Westeros there were plenty of examples of Ironborn marrying outside of the Iron Isles.

Ironborn follow the Drowned God. The Drowned God is in a different religious group then the Old Gods or the Followers of the Seven, so they can't marry under most circumstances. A good way to think of the situation is like this: the Old Gods are like Catholics and the Followers of the Seven are like Orthodox, and the Drowned God is Sunni. Catholics and Orthodoxies marrying, normal. Sunni and Catholics? Not so much.

If I'm describing this wrong, then someone please correct me.

That's how it worked in real life and vanilla, but in ASOIAF there are multiple examples of an Ironborn-Southern marriage. I was wondering if the mod is WAD? Right now Ironborn are in a religion group by themselves. If the Ironborn are added to the Westeros religion group then the problem would be solved.

Most Ironborn were traditionalists & zelous and marriage with southern girls was strange. Also Iron Isles was poor and only couple houses could afford a relationship with greenlands nobels(maybe 2/3 including Greyjoy)For the same reason it was not cost-effective for southern lords. Also most westerosi treated Ironborn like barbarians.

It's always been exceptions

No, it create gamebraking problem. Ironborn will inherit in South and vice versa

Are Ironborn really prevented from marrying non-Drowned God followers? In my current game, the Lord Paramount of the Iron Islands is matrilinearily married to a Martell and she follows the Faith of the Seven (I checked). Is this WAD or is this a bug? (I'm still on 0.9.3)

I think it should still be possible to intermarry, they can still be separate religious groups just with the intermarry ability. I think that characters with the zealous trait don't marry people of different religions (the a.i. may do it occasionally but most of the time it docent), i think this would model the fact that not all Ironborn were fanatics old way supporters reasonably well.

Probobly he was a hostage in KL(after rebellion) and King allow it
Not sure. I think he married the Martell girl on his own. But then again, the first part is possible, especially because there was a conflict between the King and the Greyjoys that one point that led to the leader being sent to the Wall and one of his sons dying in the dungeons.

It most likely won't be incorporated into the AGOT mod, for it shatters the bounds of immersion.

My recommendation is that If you want to marry someone of another faith as an ironborn, due what any ironborn would. Take them with iron and salt, and make them yours!
