I installed patch 3.0 and have tried playing but the game keeps crashing.
I can play a little while, then I get a message that the game can't autosave because I am using forbidden characters in the file name or that I dont have enough free space.
The file name I am using is the default save name when you start an Ironman game.
If I keep playing the game crashes after a while. Just before the crash an event or a tooltip shows up without the background. It is not the same event or tooltip each time.

I tried several characters, both with and without randomised worlds. I also tried playing without Ironman and I still crash after playing for a random amount of time. But never more then 15 minutes.

I tried removing all files in Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings II and I reinstalled the game and verified the game cache in Steam.

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- add ck2game.exe to the exceptions list/whitelist of your antivirus app
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK2 or Documents CK2 locations, before installing again.

I have now seen other cases of this. With them this was caused by having 32bit Windows, is that what you have?

If you are not sure, DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Well of course, as they are 32bit apps! But they can access up to 4gb of memory whereas 32bit Windows restricts them to 2gb. So that is not your problem. Yours is the first case of this error NOT on 32bit Windows I have seen!

Update that nVidia driver:

What antivirus app do you use? Add ck2game.exe to its exceptions list/whitelist.

And make sure you exit every app and process you can before starting the game.

Hard to understand how a video driver can cause a save game error, but glad it helped!

Maybe by the memory used on that card.
If there is an issue with the memory caching that could in turn maybe affect the saving process.
Not that i realy know. Rather wild speculation.
