In my latest stab at the demo, playing as the Shoni, I made a boneheaded move and declared war on the Otomo with no support. I knew I would be outnumbered based on levies, but I expected my vassals to get off their lazy butts and help.

Not one of them so much as lifted a finger. Granted, it wasn't long before I was overrun and they were busy defending their own kori, but if they had jumped in at the start it might have gone better.

Strange, usually my vassals take an active role in my wars, sending their arimes to siege provinces. One time a vassal managed to take more provinces from the war then I did...then revolted and formed a new clan of course.

Did you bother levying their troops? they won't do that by themselves I don't think. But as for their retinue...bad luck I guess. Maybe they didn't like you enough?

Clan leaders have direct control over their vassals' levies. Vassals will only field their retinue troops in the event of a war.

Look at it from their perspective, their foolish lord has just attacked a larger stronger neighbour, why would they throw away their troops that cost them money and can defend them in a war they will probably lose? Better to try and keep them safe and protect their own land.

I'm hoping the A.I. is that smart. And yes, I did levy the troops (for all the good it did me).
