  • King Arthur II
Basically I can start the game, the main menu does show up but nothing shows up for campaigns and I have no option to enter any key anywhere. The game was downloaded and installed with Steam on 3/28/2012. I've also got the DLC content - Dynastic Shields or something of that nature. Below is the blow-by-blow of what was done since the game would not run if it was run through Steam.

Steam Install Process
Install appears to have gone through okay (downloaded from Steam and used the install option that Steam offered). After install attempting to run the game via Steam library interface does not work - it seems to try to start the game (I see the game hour glass mouse icon) but if I move the mouse around on the page it will switch-out with the default mouse pointer and then back depending on where I have the mouse at. Escaping out usually shows a Windows 7 message window that the game has stopped working.

I deleted the game, re-downloaded and installed again. Same issue.

Direct Access to EXE
If I locate the KingArthurII.exe the game will run fine (I have to make sure Steam has not been started though). I get through the introductory splash screens and can see the starting menu with the dragon. If I go to "New Campaign" nothing shows up. If I go to "Load Campaign" nothing shows up. So, by directly accessing the EXE I can run the game but there are no campaigns or the DLC content that I purchased.

Other Observations
From the main menu that does come up (if I access the EXE directly), there's no spot to enter the game key. I don't know if a game key needs to be put somewhere in order for the game to actually show some new campaigns or not.

How can I actually play the game?

The campaigns are not showing up if you are not logged in to your Steam account (it can be offline mode, but still, you need to log in to your account to be able to play the game). This part is normal procedure.

So the real problem here is that apparently you can't launch the game while Steam is running. And we'll have to find a way around it together, and in that we'll need your help.

First, please (both of you) send your DxDiag reports to support@kingarthurthewargame.com
If you need help creating your dxdiag report, check this: http://devblog.neocoregames.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/How-to-create-a-Dxdiag-report.doc

Don't forget to link this thread for reference in your emails.

Many thanks for your time and help.

About DLC content - Dynastic Shields: It must be a DLC for another game. The only DLC KA II has is King Arthur II: Dead Legions, which serves as a Prologue to the main campaign.

I have a similar problem. When I get to the menu screen all other options work except the campaign options.I also see a flicker of the menu before the KA II intro screen.I sent in a dxdiag any idea what the response time is.

thanks to the wonderful, and timely, response by the support staff, I have solved this problem.

I don't know if this will work for anyone else, but when I opened the folder in C:/programs/steam/steamapps/common/kingarthurii I ran the coretech2_x86 as an administrator. this worked perfectly for me, and I was instantly able to play.

again, don't know if this will work for anyone else, but it's worth a shot.

Hi, im having the same problem. I get no campaigns, online, no downloads or nothing going on so internet is running smooth 16mbps. I have top end system 580gtx, 24gb ram etc, and i have more then half the games paradox offers but this is a first for me. Its a very strange problem to have. I have tried running x86 versions, even dx9 one, but no luck. I shouldnt be having this problem, and frankly, im very upset that people here were helped by staff without leaving the results here for others who experience this bug, you could give hints at whats wrong.

After reading forums on steam i seriously want a refund. I cant believe you released the game, and even a dlc, without fixing the game itself. Its one of the buggiest mainstream releases in video game history. I am unimpressed. I am a big enough customer of paradox to be taken into account, I have all but 8 games or so, and always buy new promising looking releases, based on trust in paradox, releasing my kind of games and in working condition. This game changes my opinion of paradox, i will be more cautious in future especially since I am sure neither I nor others who experience serious problems with game will get refunds. Im especially surprised you've released so many patches and none of the fatal errors are fixed.
Yours sincerely, Darknightr
