Laptop switching off

I don't know what's up with this game...

At minimum resolution, multisample 0 and trees off it looks like it's the least detail I can set.

... but the laptop overheats when running this game, even at just 1x speed it's only a matter of time before it switches off.

The fans are clean, the laptop rests on a tilted upwards base which has an extra fan and I've never had this problem before with games requiring a huge horsepower to run (i.e. Shogun2 Total War). What's wrong? Is there something I can do to solve this problem? Why does this happen with Sengoku? It doesn't seem so much demanding on the resources... what can I do?

Hope you can help, Gaute... have no idea why this happens. The laptop just overheats. After last switch off, I went to the Nvidia panel and forced the "performance" settings rather than quality... that might help so I am going to try again now.
PS: drivers were updated this morning, seemingly to no avail.

I can't find anything wrong. Changing to performance can help. Also maybe to run the game in windowed mode. There are some other thing you also can do in the settings.txt like set rivers=no

Still turns off.
Bad programming that's for sure. What can I say... I've got to turn down all graphic details to make it work and it still doesn't... I guess this qualifies me for a refund.
Is there a way you can ask the DEVs to address this issue? It seems rather obvious to me there's something in this game (and not others) that makes the vid card overheat. Maybe they can address this issue for next patch? Or... hopefully... for a quick fix?

Seen but no intention to try for now.
You know why?

I followed your advice, turned ON all the graph detail but playing in windowed mode and the laptop barely heats at all.
It's got to be something with DX but it's on the game's side. Pls report to the DEVs... in windowed mode there's barely any overheating at all.
I'm so happy and relieved... can't wait to learn ... I think we need something more than the manual... we need a gaming guide. Going to post a few questions now. Thanks for your help, your suggestion of windowed mode worked like a charm and I can finally enjoy the game (though I hope they fix this problem)!

I don't think the problem is on the game's side - on my mb Air with windows bootcamp sengoku runs like hell with full resolution and antialiasing. As with most other laptops i've heard. You have to look deeper at your machine, i think the game maybe doesn't like your graphics card. Shit happens...

I actually play most games on high detail.
I.e. Blood bowl, pretty good graphic, antialiasing and all with the full animations and shadows.
I play medium detail Shogun 2... that says it all.

It's definitely the game. The vid card overheats so much I can't put my hands next to the mousepad, it's too hot... then ... zzzzzzzzzzzzzz. off.

If it would be the game you would have tons complaints, this forum would be flooded... Instead you get very positive reviews performance-wise.

Oh I'm enjoying it pretty much nonetheless, I'd just love to have the full screen because of the immersion it gives but also because the tooltips hide most of the window in 1024x768 and it's hard to play but I m just loving it anyway.
