Having this new problem, have played ck2 with the exact same patch/dlc before and worked fine, all drivers updated. Have also tried with no AV software etc.
It just loads the launcher for a few seconds and closes.

Please do a full **clean** re-install:

- move any valued save games elsewhere
- "uninstall" in Steam-CK2
- manually delete both the Steam/SteamApps/common/CK2 AND Documents/Paradox/CK2 folders
- re-install game in Steam, run a Steam Verify when done.
- start the game with no mods active and test

In particular make sure there are no files or folders left under either the Steam CK2 or Documents CK2 locations, before installing again.

If that doesn't help: Does this also affect EU4?

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

Have tried re-installing, deleting, no mods etc.
Same thing happens when I load up Eu4.
dont have a settings.txt left

If you have a system.log you really have to have a settings.txt too ... ?!?

This affects where the problem can be, please check again!

If you delete the /logs/ folder does it get recreated next time you try the game?

If so, attach here any other files in that folder over 0 bytes.

And does Documents/paradox/ck2/gfx/flags/ get created? If so Are there .tga files in it?

What antivirus do you use? Make sure ck2game.exe is in its exceptions list .

logs/ gets recreated, gfx/ only has test.dds in it
have added to AV exceptions, have even uninstalled AV and tried thataway, noffin.

What antivirus do you use? the most common ones to cause this are Avast and AVG, but there can be others.

What you can do is install and run the game on any other computer you have access to, with hopefully a different AV product that does not have this problem. Copy the .tga files in Documents/paradox/ck2/gfx/flags/ across then.

No .tga files in that foldeer, are you saying? Because if there is really no AV app at all, the game will make them!

Oh no, what i meant was that it does generate the .tga-s and i copied them over. Still same crash. I also checked and all of my paradox games (eu4, stellaris) crash on launcher.

Do none of those games have settings.txt files either?

The only thing I know of right now that stops all these games working at once is the recent Windows 10 update. But that does not stop settings.txt from getting created, indeed editing that file is one way of fixing it.

Use Notepad to make a new text file called userdir.txt in the Steam Stellaris folder where stellaris.exe is. In that file place a single dot, save and exit. This tells the game to write the user files right there instead of under Documents. If that works and the game now runs, you can replace that dot with any file path you like.

the other games (eu4 and stellaris) both have settings file, but they have also been installed since forever and always worked. the userdir.txt did also not work with stellaris

If you rename their settings.txt files, do they make new ones okay?

This is really weird!

nope, other games dont make settings.txt either, but i guess you would need atleast the launcher to run for that to happen, and it aint happening. and yes, this is really frikin weird.

edit: i did a complete reinstall on all paradox games on steam, deleted everything including documenets/paradox... and all the data from steamapps... and somehow ck2 works now, eu4 still crashes on launcher but it makes settings.txt and such, will continue to experiment.
