I know crashes aren't exactly news in CK but for me at least, they used to be random. Now, however, they seem to be inherent in the current game I'm playing (most often when clicking portraits, sometimes just occuring without provocation).

The game is almost on the third century, so there are plenty of people to keep track of and the save file has grown fat and heavy (~33 Mb). Crash frequency is around once a year. The little bell will sound, I press enter and the game crashes to desktop. The game is DV patched to 2.1 beta. I believe the patch is the most recent seeing as I just installed the game on a new computer and got the patch off the web.

Basically, my question is if anything can be done to lessen the crash frequency. My suspicion is that the save file contains something 'bad', nonsense, contradictions, voodoo s**t? Is this reasonable? And if so, any chance of weeding it out? Other than going back to some ancient save file "from before the time of the crashes"?

1) Ask those questions in the tech support subforum.
2) You do already have installed the latest beta patch? There are several 2.1 beta patches - do you really, really have the latest one? ;-)

3) You are not running ANY program in the background while playing CK?
4) Defragmented your harddrive recently if using FAT 32? If not do so.
5) You started the game you play AFTER installing the latest beta patch and did NOT continue an old savegame that was started with an earlier version of the game?

6) Why only the recent and "ancient" savefiles? Don´t you save the game at least every game year? ;-)
