So, I've been playing a lot of multiplayer recently, but rarely have I been able to play a game more than 30 years or so. Because of people quitting, not coming back after crashes, etc, etc.

What I'd like to do, is get a group of people together who are willing to play on specific days/times, so we can have a continous game going, rather than starting over all the time.

If you're interested, please e-mail me at kklemmick@hotmail.com with the times and days you are available. I'm pretty flexible on time, so if I can find a day/time period where at least 4-5 people can play, we can get started.

Hope to hear from some die-hards out there.. ;-)

p.s. I've been a relatively stable host and have a good connection. I've been able to go as much as 45 years before a crash, although in most cases someone will crash or drop every 2-5 years.

Im interested

I'll drop you an email, but also as an fyi from my limited MP experience so far:
I found that a 3 player game seems more stable than 4+
When our three original players played we had only one crash in thirty years, but when we added 1-2 more players we couldnt make it more than 2-5 years without someone dropping or crashing.

Just my .02,
Lemans

I thought this at first, but experience shows it's more about the individual players than anything. I find some people just crash more often than others - possibly due to their system's stability, etc. The longest game I've run had 5 players in it. Obviously, the more players you have, the better the odds that someone crashes, no matter how stable everyone is..

Honestly, it's a little frustrating to me that Paradox can't seem to get this right. I do games for a living, and trust me - this stuff isn't rocket science. But it usually takes people a few products before they learn the ropes.

Sorry Waffen, I just haven't been on when you've been. I
apologize for that. I wish that I could devote more time
to long MP games, but it is hard for me.

Not a problem, but this is why I'd like to get people who are serious together.

so far, I've got the following people signed up:
Sebo No times listed
Parlimentarian flexible
Nick 10 CST+, weeknights
Cable 8pm PST+, daily
Waffen flexible

What I'm looking at right now is Tuesdays and/or Thursdays at 8pm PST (10 CST, 4am GMT). I'd like to play at least 4 hours.

If anyone else is interested, please mail me at kklemmick@hotmail.com

Thanks!

I'm unemployed and have plenty of time to devote to a long term game. But I've yet to play a multiplayer game, and I'm only on a 56k modem. If that's not a problem let me know. :)

Hi Waffen. Im PST also and Tues/Thur 8pm PST works for me. Ive never played EU MP before so I dont know if any special updates or downloads are required. Ive installed EU1 1.10 and EU2 1.02 and Ive got 3 years of Civ2 MP experience. I use ICQ for real-time communication while playing Civ2 MP (dont know if ICQ is compatible with EU) and Im playing with a cable modem on Windows XP.

I'm interested, also. I'm freshly unemployed and looking for a good game. I'm also PST. I have a good system. Very stable. 56K Modem only, though. I will upgrade to broadband as soon as I get another job. E-mail me when you guys are ready.
:D

Notice

Umm.. So, I don't have e-mail addresses for those of you who replied here, but let's just do it this way: We're playing Tuesday and Thursdays at 8pm PST. Whoever shows up on VNet at that time is welcome to join - But unless I have reliable contact information, don't expect us to wait for you for future sessions..

Go to Multiplayer.

Then you should be able to select Vnet as an option.

Then when you get in, you need to go to the upper right, and select a channel.

Then you are in!

Well, our first night of Multiplayer went so-so.

We started with:
Boyard, Nap Bonaparte, cfeedback, erepi, RICK and Waffen

However, RICK quickly crashed and failed to return. Later that night Boyard had to leave and erepi had some weird computer failure. However, the rest of us were able to get through 1436. Not a great night by any means, but acceptable.

Open countries right now are France, Poland and China. If you're interested in playing these and want to play regularly at 8pm PST on Tuesdays and Thursdays, please e-mail me at kklemmick@hotmail.com.

France got a little beat up by the Brits, but is completely salvagable by a decent player. Poland is basically unchanged and China has expanded slightly.

It was a blast but the game seemed barely playable on a 56k modem. I would lag behind the other players by 15-30 days usually. Sometimes it would get "stuck" on a day and then rush to catch up. Entering commands was painfully slow. If I clicked on a Royal Marriage on Jan 1st, it would usually show up on the history on like Jan 20th. Same thing for moving troops. And we crashed several times.

This seems to me to be pretty poor...EU2 is a game that should be playable on a modem. I'm gonna give it a try on a computer with DSL next time and see if I was really suffering as much as I imagined. :)

Waffen....thanx for organizing this game. Our 1st session was my 1st EU MP experience and it was very interesting. The game seemed to run at different speeds for the various players and we had a lot of drops. I run EU on a 1.8 gig processor, 512MB dram, cable modem and Windows XP and there was a LOT of lag. The game would sit stationary on a single day for 10-15 sec., then it would jump forward a week....almost like weekly turns. I clicked on my DP sliders and nothing happened so I clicked a couple more times....the slider only moved once but I took 3 stab hits. But overall it was a lot of fun and I look forward to tonights session.

We have 3 countries open so if anyone is interested please go on VNet tonight (Thur) at 8 pm PST>

I've got a game up at my IP (I mailed it to the list).

Hopefully you guys are still around. Sorry about the delay - My monitor fried itself at about 8:00 pm sharp and I had to fish a backup out of the basement.. :(

Check your e-mail for the game IP..

Thanks,
Waffen

Many apologies

Hey all - Many apologies for being late on Tuesday.

One problem with the host being late is you guys don't have the game to run without me.. :(

Anyway, hopefully it won't happen again. Hope to see you on Thursday!

Hey Taz..

Well, Tuesday/Thursdays at 8pm PST is the time to show up. VNet is up as we speak, so feel free to stop by. I've been maintaining an e-mail list of interested players which I send info to if a problem occurs (like VNet being down), so if you want on that, you'll need to mail me at: kklemmick@hotmail.com
