I play Stellaris on my desktop and occasionally on my laptop. I played for a really long session on my desktop, then when I went to bed I realized Stellaris was still open on my laptop, so I disconnected WiFi and closed it on my laptop. Unfortunately, I think this is where it Iost my progress. I think the game left open on my laptop overwrote my cloud save.

Today, when I went to resume from the launcher screen on my desktop, my progress was gone.

Can the progress be recovered, or is there only one copy and no archive? I'm regretting playing with Ironman mode now.

The issue is not with Ironman mode, it's with cloud saves. They only get synced up to Steam when you exit the game, not during play.

Actually the laptop did not overwrite anything. When you opened it with Resume on your desktop that automatically loaded the older save from the cloud and then updated it, making it a newer version than was up in Steam.

There is one slim possibility of recovery IF you have not yet run the game from the laptop again. Go to .../Steam/userdata/{yourSteamID#}/281990/remote/save games/ , which is where cloud saves get written during play. If the newer save is there you may be able to load it locally and continue; whether that will retain its ability to earn achievements I'm not sure!
