I am not sure why my loyalty for all of the vassals keeps going down drastically each month, even when I set the taxes on the nobles/vassals low (so that I see that it says I will gain X amount of loyalty per month), when I have control of the papal controller spot, I have high prestige, high piety, my character has a strong intrigue level, diplomacy level, and a good cabinet, as well as a history of good performance in wars... No recent changes to any laws, indeed no changes ever...

The only thing I could think of is that my reputation is "Hated throughout..."

But that pertains to attacking Muslims in the Holy Land and pagans in the Baltic areas, since I've never attacked any other believer nations except once when they attacked my liege...

I find it odd that even my young children drop 5-10 points in loyalty each month, despite whatever money I give them. I am at 80% efficiency in regards to provinces...

I just find this very odd. Is there something I am doing wrong? Or failing that, is there some method I can use to just set the loyalty to something reasonable and leave it there?

Currently nobody is mobilized for war, and there have been only a few recent wars, but even when I go off to war just using my own soldiers (about 8,000 total) I still take hard loyalty hits, and I haven't even asked the others to mobilize.

Even with changing my succession laws so that they match 90% of my vassals, I still took a -25 loyalty hit per most vassals over the course of the next month...

I find this incredibly unrealistic, since everything else seems to match, and I gave a few of them enough gold to boost them to 100% loyalty, but then they (along with the others) drop 20-25 points by the next month, even my own sons who are not yet even adults and are basically just sitting on lands...

Am I doing something wrong or is the game doing something wrong?

Thanks-

This is the reason :)

You must have done some really bad things
- grabbing claims
- revoking titles
- forcing claims in war
- assasinating people and get caught

1- Yes
2- A bit
3- Somewhat
4- Very much so

However my piety is extremely high (I am adored by the Pope and it was about 600 last time I checked), indeed I am the Papal Controller (which I'd assume has to do with my piety/prestige and such things?)

What can I do to get them to stop being so disloyal if my piety is already decently high?

Thanks in advance and thanks thus far for the answers.

Wait till your reputation improves

Having a high piety will improve it faster
Also granting away titles improves your reputation, but that strategy won't work since your reputation is already to bad.
To counter the loyalty loss from your reputation you can do several things
1. Switch to feudal contract law -> +1.0 loyalty a month
2. Set scutage to zero -> +1.0 loyalty a month
3. Get a very good (+15) chancellor -> that is about +4.0-5.0 a month
4. Switch to elective law -> gives extra loyalty to your strongest vassals (the top 7, from +2.0 to +0.1 a month)
5. Get higher prestige

Get even higher piety, +1000.

This isn't a bug by the way, you just have done to many bad things in a to short period of time :)

1- Already been there (Duchy of Swabia)
2- I think I'd go broke, wouldn't I?
3- More or less already there.
4- Wouldn't I risk losing my power? (Although Duchy of Swabia has 25 vassals and 11 directly owned territories, so I am very powerful)
5- I think I can do that...

As far as short amount of time goes, it's about 1215, and I started in 1187, so how long must go by before things right themselves?

I think for now I'll just start over and try again, since I can get a decent duchy again and build it up, and this time avoid using any cheats (I started using cheat codes to get gold to give away once loyalty values tanked, since it became rather hard to manage). I think this time I'll just set a rule of not cheating at all, unless the game becomes not worth continuing at which time I ought to just revert to a save and take a different path, or concede I blew it.
