Mac PC multiplayer?

My friend and I have been trying to play on a lan together, but we can't seem to be able to join each others games. I have a mac he is using a pc. My version of the game is Hoi2 v1.3b1 Mac UB v1.2 (BQKU). My friend currently Hoi2 v1.3a (JLQC). He has attempted to install the 1.3b patch but the checksum has not changed. Anybody have any ideas as to how we can make this work?

hmm i think u need to have the exact same version to play (not 100% sure)
