After reading through some posts on the tech forum and trying a few things, I'm here to post because nothing has helped.

From the onset of the game, the time studders along no matter the speed setting. There is no reason for such a thing, as I'm running with the following specs:

AMD Athlon 2.13Ghz
2.0 GB of RAM
Radeon 9800 Pro graphics card

Suffice it to say, the performance of this game is not acceptable, and the latest patches have done nothing to alleviate the problem.

Is there anything else I might do to fix this laggy slow progression in time?

Do not run on the fastest settings try normal speed. The later patches will actually slow the game down more since there is a lot more AI going on.
As for your problem I would suggest starting with the FAQ on the subject in the Victoria support forum, everything in there including renaming files will work for HOI2 as well.

As I said in the original message, the speed setting has no effect on the leggy gameplay.

Setting it to "Normal" speed, actually makes it run even slower.

I don't understand what you mean by the "Victoria FAQ". This is HOI2 I'm having a problem with, and I would like an answer from an HOI2 document.

If going from a faster game setting back to "normal" makes the flow of time in the game also slower, then you are not experiencing any lag. In fact, the flow of time should be considered Working As Designed.

You are experiencing lag if you can, in fact, observe any of the points as listed in the mentioned victoria FAQ, like choppy mouse pointer movement, choppy map scrolling, etc.

The point, gentlemen, is that my game is not functioning as it should, even though my computer specs are several times the minimal requirements.

On the fastest setting, it does indeed lag, as you stated above. The time moves sporadically, and scrolling on the map is also sporadic.

Can someone in this Tech forum actually give me a solution to this problem, or do we have to sit here and argue over definitions all day?

Have you run anti-virus and spyware programs on your PC and do you have a firewall?

Do you have any other programs running in the background?

Are you using an hacks like Window mode or resolution changer?

Is the lag accuring at a specific time like 1am? Or is it different times on the clock and if so do you see any pattern to it?

Are you using any mods and if so which ones?

Lothos,

1. I have anti-virus software and spyware programs that are run and updated on a regular basis, as well as a firewall.

2. I am not using any hacks, just the regular HOI2 game patched to 1.3A

3. The lag does indeed get worse at 1AM when the game updates resource amounts and other such things, but even during the normal day time hours, it's still laggy in its progression.

4. I am not using any mods

If that is the case it is the normal speed of the game. Now if you play the 36GC the game is very fast but once the war starts it gets real slow. This is normal and part of the game and nothing you can do to fix it as the game is taking more CPU cycles. The only thing I can suggest then is you look at Task Manager and see what you have running in the background and try to remove items you do not need to run. Also make sure your anti-virus software is not running actively (McCaffee has a habbit of doing this).

Other than that I don't think anything can be done and what you are experiencing is normal game speeds.

I told you that everything in the Victoria FAQ applies equally to HOI2, So you can consider it an Offical HOI2 document. You asked for help I told you how you could get it, If you do not want anymore help then tell me and I will close the thread.

Yeah, the Victoria FAQ in the tech forum didn't help me at all.

I'm not by any stretch of the imagination, computer illiterate. I know how to free up system resources, and I understand why such things may cause problems, even though I think it's completely outrageous that while I can run Quake 4 without any serious problems, HOI 2 is giving me excessive lag. Does this sound reasonable to you?

Why is it that every other game I play, which are higher end games, run smoothly, but HOI2 runs like crap? This doesn't sound like a system resource problem to me. I thought there was a configuration utility for HOI2, but after installing it recently, I don't see it anywhere. Maybe I'm thinking of another game.

In the future, please don't point me to a FAQ. I didn't post in the tech forum because I wanted to sift through other websites and hundreds of other posts for the information I'm looking for.

By the way, I started the campaign in 1936, and the war has yet to break out. I cringe at the thought of what is to come in the way of the lag.

Actually yes I do find it normal that your Quake might run faster than HOI2.
Quake maybe 3D graphic intensive but it does not have 100s of independant AI bots running.

And how does being computer literate help you to know what particular Paradox file to rename. ;)

You came here looking for information, I told you where you could find the information.
Really I do not see the problem.

If you are so much of a computer expert that you do not need to read FAQs on the subject you came here to enquire about, we obviously cannot be of any help to you.
So I will just go ahead and close this thread.
