Is there a way to make the Mongols stronger?

I've only made it to the Mongol invasiosn twice but both times they failed miserably to only a moderately strong nation. Do they ever get more than 2 or 3 provs?

At the moment they seem insanely weak and I want to have a much more powerful opponent. Anyway, aside from loading up as a country and ceding them lots of land how could I make them strong enough to survive more than 2 years?

There are also plenty of people who say that they are to strong. :)

You can give them bigger and/or more regiments.

Go to C:\...\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings\db\event\mongol_invasion_events.

The events are retalive simple, just add more of these lines to the effect

Code:
effect = { type = add_regiment country = GOLD culture = mongol strength = { archer_cav = 10000 light_cav = 10000} }

I'd like to share some thoughts of this .
I've played hands off games where I increase the Mongol Hordes by a factor of 10 , or so . But several problems occur . Firstly , attrition kills the Horde quickly if war isn't declared on the First Month . Trust me - I used full control to check . Secondly , and this is most game breaking , when you declare war on a realm , you are actually not at war with their vassals . Since the AI can quite stupid at times , this means that sometimes , a Mongol horde may overwhelm the Demense of a nation - only to see the nation's army hiding among the vassals and nailing the Mongols captured provinces when they move on .

Thirdly , the Smarkand issue . Smarkand is a stone throw away from Bukhara , yet is not on the map . That is extremely ahistorical and unrealistic , giving the Mongols only a small strip of the far side of the Caspian to launch their invasion from. Add Smarkand and the rest of Trans Oxinia to Crusader Kings , up to the Tian Shan and Pamirs and you may get a better modelling of the Mongol Invasions by giving them Trans Oxinia as a base to mount their invasion of the Western Half of Eurasia.

Mongols (at least the ones appearing by event if you play the 1066 scenario) should have 0 attrition. That's ony of the things that makes them so deadly.

Second, they're religious enemies, and the AI is also stupid (maybe suicidal is more accurate) for the christian vassals that you might hide amongst, many of them will declare war. I don't see much chance of modding this in any way. In any case, it's one of the few ways the Mongols can be won, I guess.

Thirdly, adding new provinces seems to be quite complicated. For the DVIP-Wales mod (which adds 5 new provinces to Wales), the author had to reuse some sea zones (there are no spare zone tags apparently). I've heard they're from the western edge of the map, but i've also heard it still does make sailing from the Canary Islands to Iceland quite a bit faster than before :p

Not sure if it's even posibble to add provinces outside the map edges, although you could certainly split Bukhara into two graphically smaller provinces.
