At least two military alliances others have are continually being updated every month so they expire ten years from the current date. As such all alliances are in essence frozen in place forever. Any idea what's going on? Have others experienced this?

Strategy First release, patch 1.08, IGC 1.9c.

Yes, with 1.08 version, I have the same problem. Wishing to have Poland or Spain in my alliance, I waited to propose them to join my alliance. But the alliance was just extended, each month!

But it did not occur each time...

Interesting to see someone else having the problem. One thing I tried was editing the .eug file so an alliance that was extending out was supposed to end two months from the current date. Only at the beginning of the next month it was extended to 10 years again. I think my next test is to delete the alliance altogether and see what happens.

happens to me as well. when i play as russia, i wait and wait for persia to get out of her alliances(usually with Pol-Lit)and it does it as well. thing is, it happens on and off. i could not say "This happens every time i play through as Russia" Funny, huh?

That's an interesting point about the Russian connection. In fact, that is the nation I'm playing while experiencing this problem. Hmmm. I have verified that things work okay if you delete the alliance altogether in the .eug file. New alliances seem to not have the 10 year bug.

what, you can delete an alliance? isn't that a bit risky though? and when you delete it, does that mean any alliance(ie, Georgia is allied to Turkey, i want her to be allied to me. i delete the alliance, and then try and make Georgia my ally(to get the colonial dynamism when i get them annexed)?
just curious. i don't think i will do it, rather take the stability hit and wipe out Georgia all together.
interesting, never knew you could delete alliances.

same here

Just got the same problem. And it isn't related with the patch (my game isn't patched) nor to Russia (I'm playing France and the said alliance doesn't include Russia). Since the problem just appeared, I'll reload a save from the last year and see if it works correctly this time. One of the member of the "auto-extended" alliance is indeed in war, but alone against the aztecs. And anyway, the year before, she was already at war and her alliance wasn't extended.

I noticed this too after I had installed the 1.8(v). As I followed several protestant countries that I wished to ally with against France. I noticed that during times of war they would update continuously until peace was once again established. But there always seemed to be another war before the 10 years were up. I find this annoying as to my strategy but realistic as they fight together they reestablish their bonds. Though I do wish they had to physically do this rather than automatic.

Actually I was wrong. Spain wasn't at war with the incas the year before, and the alliance was indeed extended only when the war began.

However, I agree that the alliance should be extended only when allies are fighting together. I don't think the fact that Spain is fighting alone on the other side of the world should extend an european alliance.

If you open the diplomatic mode and you put speed real slow you might have a chance. When "invite to alliance" lights up, act on the instant. This worked for me for minor states. Don't know about majors though. Didn't any moderator react on this ?
