Hello All

It’s Swiss National Day and in light of that I‘d like to reveal a little project I‘ve been working on for the last year.

It covers the history of the formation of the Swiss Confederacy and it’s struggles against the interest of powerful noble dynasties.

I‘ve played CK2 for ages and have always thought that it would be a rather fitting for such a scenario. The focus of the mod will be primarily on game play and the introduction of fun new mechanics. That doesn’t mean that historical accuracy will be completely lacking but the early days of the Swiss Confederacy are not very well documented and lots of it is shrouded in myth.

Please Note: The Mod is in it's Current State very much Work in Progress

The small alpine regions of modern day Switzerland in the late medieval Period: A low level count gets to be Emperor and lays the foundation of one of the most powerful dynasties in the history of Europe, a regular abbey grows to unprecedented earthly and clerical power and a small group of peasant leaders swear a mythical oath to fight for their freedom.

Brothers in Oath is set in late medieval Switzerland and ranges from 1280 to 1580. Follow the rise of the Swiss Confederacy or try to stop the rebellion of these common folk as the Habsburg-Dynasty.

Unique Governments

  • A collection of largely independent vassals electing a leader every two years.
  • No Factions or peasant Rebellions
  • Highly stable but leader constantly struggle to retain their popularity with their peers.
  • Has to call its vassals to arms.

New Alliance Mechanics

Form durable alliances which are not bound to your character. The sworn alliance works like a tributary but is en par with you and can even take the leadership of your alliance.

For prestige and power you can form a confederacy which is the more centralized version of the alliance with a title and a leader who's elected via the Common Assembly.

Map

Alpine Region of Switzerland lots of small passages and valleys ideal for trapping your enemy. 548 Provinces, 83 Duchies, 10 Kingdoms and 2 Empires.

Roadmap
Arrival_Of_the_Amman.png
As for many people I cannot promise specific dates but the road map will look like this:

  • Like the regular Merchant Republic but with the addition of powerful Craftsmen Guild Societies.
  • Only Guildsmen can be on the council.
  • Very Profitable but require a lot of micro management to function.
  • More CB's
  • More Events
  • Christian "Caste" System to better represent the Status of each character

  • A playable theocracy. Every Monk at your court is your Brother and the Clausura is their Dynasty. The abbot is elected from the brothers in the abbey.
  • Recruit new brothers from sons of noble dynasties but only the unmarried and pious one's might say yes.
  • Use charity and profit from gifts of the god fearing earthly rulers to acquire new lands through their will.
  • Secured against dynastic scuffles but vulnerable to heresy and a weak military.
  • Even More CB's
  • Even More Events

  • HRE Offmap Power
  • More CB's
  • More Events

I‘m currently finishing up my bachelors in Game Design so this is an interesting challenge to create something in this beautiful modding playground paradox has created.

I created the map, art and some base mechanics myself, but I‘m now also ready to work with others in filling in more of the content and additional mechanics and art to get it to an initial release state.

Looking for:

Interface Artist / Event Pictures Artist
Someone who can help creating more art and Icons for the Mod, as well as Event Pictures and flavor Pictures

History Writer / Researcher
Someone who can help creating title history and researching. This would also involve writing Characters and Title History.

If you are interested just PM me.

Special Thanks

To my girlfriend who had the focus and excel skills to manage a lot of initial labour-intensive stuff.

JonStryker
For his great guides which led me on my initial steps of the journey in creating the map.

I've always loved CKII maps like this, having all the small counties like in the winter king mod. Having one based around republics with unique game mechanics aswell? Amazing. Thank you Kanye, very cool!

Hey, i dont have much modding experience but i would like to try help you with this project.

The idea and the map both look lovely! Hit me up if you need small graphics stuff such as icons or the like :)

Update
Hey you all thanks for your interest :D

I'm currently working and refining the mechanics for the Reich as an Off-Map power. I'm targeting early 2020 for an initial release. There'll be only one bookmark to start there which is the 1280 Bookmark.
A huge part of creating the initial bookmark will be the history and the historical characters needed.

As soon as we have our Emperor there will be more details on how the emperor influences the region and how players can interact.

little thing to say about the placement of the chablais region. Im from Bas-valais and for me the chablais is the part between St-Maurice to the the start of the leman lake. Maybe it was not at the time. It's just that he peeked my interes

Hey thanks for the feedback, I'll look at those regions again.

CK3
So there have been a few things going on since my initial post. First we have the announcement of CK3 which is actually a very good thing. I will continue with the development of this mod until CK3 is out and then also try to migrate. It is also good that we know now that no new features are coming to CK2 so the modding can be more destructive in terms of what vanilla stuff I replace or change.

Progression
Well first when I started to post about the project I was very motivated by the positive reaction of all you guys. Big thanks to you all. I also thought I would get more off time from my studies. As it turns out changes to the curriculum resulted in requiring us to make 4 games this semester, which really threw a lot of my work schedule off and yes the mod did suffer from it.

Well the mechanics for the emperor are currently a huge construction site. The Screenshots are very ugly, because there hasn't been any interface modding been done to it.

ck2_15.png

ck2_16.png

So the Mechanics of the Emperor as it stands at the moment will be:
  • You can gain Grace via Money or
  • Supplying Mercs to the HRE
    • Supping Mercs will affect your vassals opinion
  • You can get Boons at the moment just one: Direct Domain
    • At Level DUKE and above you can demand to be a direct domain of the emperor.
    • This will remove any liege you might have and place you in a protected status that will give you buffs on your trade route value, tax income and you can spawn defensive armies if needed.
However at the moment offmap power modding is just not progressing as I wish it should. So I might put the further development on hold in the HRE department to advance the mechanics that are much more relevant to the gameplay. It would probably allow me to implement the emperor with more features later.

I will redirect my focus on to the Confederacy mechanic that will allow you to create more durable alliances and even deepen them to the extent that your alliance will create a title.

History
The filling of history and populating the world is still the monumental task. I have at least one other helper in that department but more would be surely appreciated.
We currently have a very simple excel tool that simply helps with the history editing, so people whit out any code knowledge can help out in creating more content.

Hi, glad you are still working on this^^

I can probably share the offmap HRE tab I did for my own project (LCDA), you can see it in the mod's thread.
Don't mind asking for some art, I'll see if i can help with that.
