Welcome to the Combat Overhaul mod, designed to rebalance weapons and combat for a more balanced game with more viable options for ship designs.
The intent behind this mod is not to radically change the combat system but to even out some of the disparities between the various weapon systems and iron out some of the more annoying ship behaviour.

Mod is available now on the steam workshop:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=693954243

Core Changes:

Kinetic designed to be stronger against big low evasion armoured targets.
Energy stronger against high evasion shielded targets.
Missiles all rounders, with torpedos still penetrating shields but overall not as high dps as normal missiles and more vulnerable to PD.
Tried to make the more exotic weapons such as flak and arc lightning more useful.
Made debris research weapons into more midgame weapons that are worth the effort of acquiring, similar to mid tier researched tech but with slight bonuses.

Made increasing tech lvl tiers of weapons have more impact with increasing accuarcy per tier and bigger damage spreads through tech levels.

Attempt to make larger mounts more than just 4 small mounts with increased bonuses to shield pen etc, offset by lower accuracy for kinetic/energy, offset for missiles as easier to PD 1 missile over 4.

Added range computers that override normal combat computer behaviours similar to rangefinder mod.
Ships will attempt to stay at the range on the range computer instead of just zerging into enemy fleets.
Bonuses from combat computers such as evasion still work, only behaviour is overridden.

Fixed combat computer bonuses so that they apply to ships (fire rate, damage etc).
* bonuses now do not show in ship designer but are applied once ship is built.

Inspired by z beautiful battles mod:
increased larger ship combat speed to be able to close to desired range at reasonable pace.
increased ship spacing so ships dont get slowed trying to get past longer range ships in fleet.
increased ship back off so ships try to stay at set range more aggressively.

Known Issues:

Loading a save from before the mod will put engines in the new range computer slot, designs will need to be updated.

Minor issue with excessive kiting in smaller battles and at end of larger battles between the remaining ships - makes sense but can be annoying.

More details on changes can be found on the workshop page.

Let me know what you think! :)
