Just a poll really, to see if people would be interested.

Topic

If you could play as any nation, state, tribe or party that ever existed in a physical sense in Europe, North Africa and the Mid-East, in a Darkest Hour-esqe engine with sufficient balancing against other nations, which one would you pick? This can be from any time period, and possibly any alternate history setup.

Purpose

I'm asking this question because I want to probe the DH engine to see if a Fantasia setup, like in EU and Vicky, can be possible, and to what extent can it be achievable. Obviously, the colonization aspect is out the window, but the idea of playing as a nation, and using politics and changing tides to advance your nation at the expense of others, with various other accutrements to make the experience more varied, appeals to me, and I wonder if it would appeal to you folks.

In submitting, be sure to add your reasoning for wanting to play as this nation. Otherwise, there are no requirements.

* The Goths
- For coming from nowhere to creating two of Europe's largest kingdoms in no-time.

* The Vandals
- For being the most exotic northmen, with a kingdom right in the middle of North Africa.

an Irish Galicia, with the population becoming Gaelic-speaking

If it comes to S.America, I would like to play as Riograndense Republic (let's assume that it could really separate from Brazil about 1840). Or then, Gran Colombia, which could try to unite all S.America...

But for Europe, don't know... maybe a Celtic League?

A modern or 20th Century Roman Empire, still speaking Latin after all these centuries and complete with Latin names and titles.

Edit: Or a Tsarist Russia.

An independent Euskadi.

Saxons. In being that they are my ancestors or Normans. either one.

-The PSI during the Two Red Years and the Togliatti's PCI, in Italy
-Rome under Cola di Rienzo's rule

The Algonquin, since I am part Algonquin :) You would have to include North America though.

A reformed and constitutional monarchy Ottoman Empire that is no longer the sick man of europe.
-Roman Republic
-Imperial Russia
-Imperial Germany
-Spanish Empire at its height

A surviving/resurgent Venetian Republic would make for a very interesting game... certainly it would entirely alter the Mediterranean situation for the rest of history, as well as being an interesting mix of conservatism and progressive policy.
