I had this too but it is soluble with patience:
Clean vanilla install of 2.32 checksum IYID (this is the Steam version of Gold, YMMV).
Unzip and copy across 2.36c overwriting everything.
Delete everything from map/cache/ except the province_textures folder
Start Rome twice, the first time the checksum is JUCG and the second time it's XEVC. Do not do anything the first time, just quit as soon as you see the main menu and checksum.
Unzip and copy across the Magna Terra mod into the mod folder (2011-11-04 version), and unzip and copy the province textures (same date) into the map/cache/province_textures folder. Delete everything else in the map/cache/ folder, just leave the province textures.
Start the launcher and choose the Magna Terra mod, twice. The first time checksum is MYHO and the second time is NWAW. Again, quit as soon as you get to main menu the first time. If you get to NWAW you have successfully avoided the creating the world crash - now can you help me with it not loading its own save games?! You can play any nation and save, but you can't reload the save!
