Dev Diaries:
Dev Diary #1: Shapeshifting
Dev Diary #2: Vampires

Warning: this post is very story heavy and a certain amount of geekiness from the reader is recommended...

Hello there, i am currently working on a total conversion mod for ck2 named Nimeria - A playground for the gods.

Nimeria is a world full of religions, cultures and real gods (most of them atleast). The world takes inspiration from all kinds of mythology from around the world (mainly european mythology). The inhabitants of Nimeria are all human however, except for the giants (yes, playable) living in the north. The idea was to make a (high) fantasy world without the (imo) standard formula of humans, elves, dwarves and orcs. Since religion plays a major role in the mechanics of ck2, I decided to make a story-rich world that revolves around religions and cultures.
The religions in Nimeria bless/curse ordinary humans with all sorts of unnatural powers.

NOTE: SCREENSHOTS ARE OUT OF DATE!
The world: (sorry for the bad screenshot quality, would love to hear how to improve the quality)

Culture groups:

Cultures on the map:

Giants:
The giants live in the most northern part of nimeria, their race will be unable to have intercourse/marriages with other races and they will have their own government form, which will function much like tribal governments with a few differences. They will be divided into 4 cultures: Winterheart, Frostbeard, Stonefist and Pinefinger. They worship "The Ancients", long gone titans that walked the earth, of which they believe to be decendants.
a270c85862.jpg

Northmen:
The northmen currently feature two cultures: Oving and Esving. In terms of mechanics they will probably be very much like norse germanics in vanilla. They worship the Mermaid, an enormous mermaid that keeps seamen safe from the fearsome Kraken. (I will come up with some more special features for the Northmen later on)
a271dafef2.jpg

Stormborn:
The stormborn currently feature two cultures: Stormlings and Thunderlings. They came to nimeria as invaders from across the western oceans. They worship the stormgods Maelsar and Thungar, two gods that are brothers. Maelsar is the high Stormlord, ruler of the Stormworld and Thungar, his banished brother rules from his cloud sanctum. The stormborn are gifted with knowledge about electricity and are a steampunk-like civilization.

Westerlings:
The westerlings currently feature two cultures: Nothian and Lowak. The Nothian have been opressors of the Lowak culture for centuries. Most Nothians are full blood vampires, while very few Lowaks are vampire at all. The Nothian vampires possess immortality and basically use the Lowaks as cattle. The Lowaks are in much greater numbers than the Nothian vampires, but the Lowaks have always been too afraid to rise up against their opressors. A stormling invasion coming from the west however might cause a shift of power.

Shebari:
The Shebari culture group consists of two cultures: Zabari and Dajabi. The Shebari are the natives of the Shebar Jungle. They are animism believers and each Shebari undergoes a trial at the age of 16, which can grant them the power to shapeshift into one animal whenever he/she likes for the rest of his/her life. Only a few are gifted with the shapeshifting powers of stronger animals however, such as bears, rhinos, elephants and even dragons (very few).

Taik:
The Taik feature three cultures: Yari, Rokuro and Tuga. The Taik are nomad horselords which are worshippers of the Four Winds. Each wind direction (north, east, south, west) give the horselords unique powers and casus belli, creating a dynamic gameplay experience. Oh... and also: flying horses.

Terrosian:
The Terrosian feature two cultures: Pelakos and Romilian. The Terrosian are the finest architects, smiths and craftsman of Nimeria, their lands are full of resources, especially iron. Terrosian are somewhat unhuman, they live longer than the average human and have tougher skin than normal humans. Some say the purest Terrosian have iron running through their veins instead of blood, making them even stronger. The Terrosian have been an imperial force in Nimeria for as long as history has been recorded, however "The Iron Hegemony" is about to lose it's dominion over most of southern Nimeria due to a large scale rebellion.
a271f5f10e.jpg

Pyranians:
The Pyranian culture group consists of three cultures: Sunitines, Lunorines and Sulahmians. The Pyranians are masters of the mystic arts. The Sunitines and Sulahmians are able to control fire. And the Lunorines are masters of the dark arts and necromancy. Their culture is rich and their people are prosperous. Their civilization is built on merchants and trade.

You should re-upload your screenshots to somewhere other then Dropbox or you might end up eating up your download limit.

You also linked them wrong, they're not showing up for me. Gives me a 404 error.

You need to use the 'public link', not the direct link.

Ah, Thanks, will do so when in a few hours because i got to go right now. I thought using dropbox was better because of images not getting removed :p

Even without the screenshots this sounds very promising! (Ga zo door!) :D

Well of course everything in this mod is about balancing, every race/religion has their own boons which i plan to balance compared to the others but to give you an example:
The stormborn have high technology compared to the others (war tech mainly) and special troops/buildings but meanwhile the vampires will have immortality and other bonusses such as high intrigue while the giants have no normal levies except for a few special troops which deal crazy damage and so on. More details on all this will become more clear as i progress with the mod.

So yes, balancing is always a thing and i expect to spend a fair amount of time on it :D
But just like in vanilla ck2, there will be big fish and small ones.

It will be possible to "meet" the gods through certain events (chains). I will take inspiration from greek and norse mythology for this. With "real" i meant that they grant actual powers and now that i said it like this i noticed that it could be seen as offensive the way i described it. Woops.

Hey, it's really cool to see a mod based on an original idea! Most mods I've seen are either history-based or adaptations of an already existing franchise to CK2. Good luck on your project, I bet it's loads of fun to make :)

Hell yes it is :p Creating your own backstory-rich world makes you feel like a Tolkien, Rowling, Lewis, Martin. Although i am not worthy of being in the same sentence as those names hehe.

Update: The Terrosian religion (Terrathian)
Terrathians worship Terrath aka The Earthfather aka The Creator.
The terrathian religion is a weak and unorganized religion even though the terrosians are widely known as imperial and well-organized people.
Their religion can be reformed however, making the reformer the head of the religion.
(unreformed) Terrathian Mechanics:
  • heirs with the Pure Ironblood trait will have priority over other heirs
  • rulers can order to take the vows
  • rulers can hold temple titles (terrosian government form, more on this later)
  • priests can marry
  • priests can inherit titles
  • ruler can marry close kin to improve vassal opinions
  • can be reformed
  • no religious head
(reformed) Terrathian Mechanics:
  • heirs with the Pure Ironblood trait will have priority over other heirs
  • the reformer is the head of the religion
  • pentarchy mechanics (yes, you can play as the (iron) patriarch)
  • if the iron patriarch has a kingdom rank title he will be known as God-King
  • if the iron patriarch has a empire rank title he will be known as God-Emperor
  • the iron patriarch can excommunicate terrathian characters
  • the iron patriarch can grant divorces (might remove this one, in order to reduce events spam)
  • the iron patriarch can grant the invasion cb
  • rulers can order to take the vows
  • rulers can hold temple titles (terrosian government form, more on this later)

  • ruler can marry close kin to improve vassal opinions
Let me know what you think!

Looks interesting.

Lore question: why would the heaspriest of a religion with a recognised deity be suddenly called "God-<whatever"? And how is iron related to the religion?

Lore question: why would the heaspriest of a religion with a recognised deity be suddenly called "God-<whatever"? And how is iron related to the religion?

The terrosians originally aren't very zealous people they focus more on the earthly things instead of the spiritual. The reformer basically declares himself a deity because he managed to make the religion great again (unintentional trump quote), while in fact he is of course still a human. As i said the terrosians are more into the earthly instead of the spiritual so they accept his "God" status because he is a physical form of a deity in their eyes.

Iron is important in their religion for it runs (in pure form) through the veins of the purest terrosians, this is seen as a gift from their god(s). So they generally see iron as a sacred material and make their idols and shrines out of it. Their lands are also abundant of it, which they also see as a blessing from their god.

Hope this answers your questions :p

Somewhere in between the size of a tree and big enough to swing a tree, but not like a baseball bat, more like big enough to swing a tree like a baseball bat which is two times the normal length and a lot thicker. However there will be larger creatures, but i don't want to spoil to much about that yet... :p
