Will there be more content in the future?

Maybe actual asteroid mining
Rail transport?

Bigger and more massive maps

Modular buildings

Or other things?

I think it's safe to say there will be more content, looking at the maturity of the game. We won't get official announcements about what it would be because the last DLC has just been released.
Your ideas would be noticed by the devs in the Suggestion section!

So there will be more indeed?
I was under impression only 2 dlcs

Im actually happy they would continue to make more dlcs, would be very cool to flesh out this game further.

So many ideas, even after terraforming for example.

I can't confirm it, but I would be surprised if there wouldn't be any more-- looking at the amount of DLCs for almost every other title made by them :)

Bear in mind Paradox is only the publisher, not the developer for SM, so the usual Paradox long tail of DLC might not apply here.

I don't think there'd be a ton of new content for the game. Which is ok by me. I'd like them to develop other ideas too.

I hope the game doesn't go into CK2 mode, with eternal expansions. That said, there might be a few ways to flesh it out more.

One is scale. Our influence on Mars is at a planet scale now, but apart from abstracted missions to other sites, we can't really expand beyond out initial landing site. It would be nice (and give us something to do while we wait for the terraforming values to click up) if we could start new colonies in other areas of mars. This would imply the introduction of local and regional transport and logistics, which honestly would be great.

Another thing we could work on would be culture/politics of our emerging society. Haemimont have experience with this, and while no-one wants Tropico In Space, there are elements that would work well, like local elections, factions demanding specific investments, etc.

Also, music. More music DLC please. Quantum and Marsvision were bloody great.

hmmm you know Tropico in space, with a chance to see a culture out grow the diner/casino/bar/shops as the only mark of civilian life and culture is kinda exactly what I wanted from day 1.

I'd love to see the terraforming dlc expanded into it's own dedicated game with more complex mechanics and a greater variety of things to do (give me lakes and rivers that form naturally, or other locations that open up as the terraforming progresses). Green Planet is a DLC, so terraforming can't really be intergrated completely into the base game because the base game has to function without it.

Completely understand the idea of going further with Terraforming , maybe punctual random events/disasters could be considered. Looking at the Civilization 6 gathering storm expansion which introduces floods, volcanic eruptions, blizzards, sand storms, hurricanes... Those are random events providing benefits (soil quality increase) and catastrophies (buildings closed during the event and requiring higher than usual maintenance after) on a localized part of the map and you've been warned in advance, you settled knowing the risks so applied here you would be like: "Hey there's a double vista here that's great but there's a volcano in range..."

This model/idea going to Surviving Mars would be great and make Terraforming an even more organic thing. Your idea about rivers is great, we can create lakes so why not connecting them to create a river and consider a dam for electricity production then?

Then for Culture/Goverment I would really like to have that to provide more depth to certain mechanics in the game, you chose your government and adapt their corresponding policies depending on your colony situation. For example there's always a situation around population growth during a game, at the beginning you could have a policy to encourage babies because you provide a maternity leave for mothers who will not work for a couple of sols after having a baby. Later on you could have a one child policy for when there's too many people, it would imply a moral penalty on colonists but provide a slight higher chance of having a rare trait for children at school because they are better taken care of.

I really hope that a DLC around a Government idea is considered, it would give room to provide more depth to several mechanics in the game, maybe some moral choices and to the relationships with other colonies, Earth or even other colonized parts of the Solar system (thinking about the Beyond Earth mystery for example). Love the idea of getting independence, definitely something to do here !

Definitely agree with what was said above with Culture, this would be a mean to have a feeling of adapting to a Martian lifestyle. Having a mechanic similar to science, with points to be generated to unlock new buildings, events or create artists (workshops for example?). Let's imagine also an Artist trait just like the Genius/Celebrity/Saint/Empath for example, you could send him as a tourist to a rival colony or on Earth for a Concert or Art Exhibition and get funding or culture points... Unlocking a museum building as well would be great, you would display artefacts found earlier in your game like the Curiosity rover or Tesla car for example to get a bonus like a moral boost to those in the same dome or visiting the building but it would need people to work in it to preserve these. A security station would also be considered to prevent risks of these artifacts being stolen for example. Expeditions would be unlock on the planet to find artefacts, Indiana Jones on Mars :p

Well those are the first ideas that came to mind and would get me really exited! What are your thoughts?

Also asteroid mining would be super cool. Maybe even a resource only extractable by there or alternatively current resources avaialble there in much higher quantities but at same time many hazards being possible.

A bit like "small landing areas" were we could build buildings and explore them for resources until we exhaust the asteroid and have to move on to the next one.

At a certain point Mars is now green, vibrant with life, but we still have to deal with the "not habitable part" via asteroid mining bases

I would like more transport options such as logistics rovers that transport goods and colonists over long distances like the flyers except they can run during storms and are available earlier. Unlike the flyers they would need tunnels and ramps to get around the map and would be slower.

Trains would be a good late game option to connect domes and services. You could also have cargo yards so trains can distribute resources.

Maybe the ability to set up secondary colonies and have mega rovers to travel between them or zeppelins once your atmosphere is up and running.

More out dome structures like sports fields and big factories. Maybe a mars preserve to preserve a pre terraforming part of the map. Parks and open ranches would be nice late game buildings as well.

More economic options such as in depth tourism, manufactured luxury goods and cash crops.

Hi Folks
I just joined the forum. I was recently gifted Surviving Mars by a real good friend. He said " I think you will enjoy it". He wasn't wrong, I love it! Well done to Paradox and Haemimont, I can't stop playing it! On the question of DLCs tho, well, now that I have put a good bit of time into the game, an old memory came to the surface. That memory was the old 70s show Space 1999. Moonbase Alpha faced many of the problems you encounter in Surviving Mars and I'd love to see a DLC based on it, maybe even a whole new game using new art assets but still running on the same engine. I do know of the Moon Mod and that's a good start but if Paradox or Haemimont could get the rights to use the Space 1999 IP for a DLC or new game, that would be awesome!

Yes I would love to see the game mechanics be applied to other planets and moons in our solar system. But very much unlike Stellaris :p
