1. find someone to play with
2. find that persons ip
3. start the game and choose MP
4. (if the other person has started a game) u enter that persons ip and off you go
have fun!

Another dumb question
Is connecting to their IP address the same as 'calling' them, thus leading to big phone bills?
Never played before, so I'm ignorant to how exactly it works.

"Calling" IP addresses
It's just like emailing them. You're using the internet inside EU to chat. No extra cost--beyond what your internet service provider charges you.

on my machine you go into the start menu, click on run then type in winipcfg it should then give it to you.
This won't work in 2000 or XP. Instead, go to start, then go to run, type in cmd, and in the DOS dialog box type in ipconfig.
