Muddling Through the Darkest Hour Session 32B - August 1, 1940 - Mediterranean Seas of Blood
I better take a quick save before continuing, because we made a big post.
Okay, maybe counters are better than dolls. The arrow gives a more clear picture where units are headed. Further, we found that all Italian East African units are Militia. This makes it a lot easier to defend.
News from the Front:
July 19, 1940 - We survived the first day of war against Italy. USA announced an ultimatum against Japan and an Oil Embargo.
With Italy now in the war, it is very safe to guarantee Greek Independence. Maybe in this timeline we will keep Crete.
Looking at the map right now, Greece is a long way from the Axis.
Our Naval Bomber found the Battleship group at Cape Passero. However, it is not nearly as powerful as the German 4 that were operating last year. We did some damage, but need several days to recover. We also saw an Italian group of bombers attacking the French fleet. If those are 8 Naval Bombers, then we might be hurting in short order.
July 21, 1940 - We might have scored first blood against the RM off the coast of Sicily. We will continue our patrol to the African coast.
July 22, 1940 - Italians moved very quickly into Egypt, captured As Sollum.
Holy crap - The Italians have 9 Naval Bombers! Our Naval Bombers got butchered trying to leave Malta.
July 23, 1940 - This was enough for us to smuggle some Hurricanes into Malta.
July 26, 1940 - Good news - We landed in Assab. Bad news - It is claimed for France.
July 27, 1940 - Italians captured Bir Baylin. They should be in Alexandria by the end of the month.
We got kind of smashed over Malta as German Squadrons joined the Italian air raid. We might face the wrath of the Naval Bombers again.
HMS Malaya got mauled and we are a long way from port.
July 28, 1940 - Germany started their Diplomatic Offensive.
Italians captured Sidi Barrani. They are consolidating Egypt.
Upgrade Parade:
July 20, 1940 - HMS PoW AA upgrade - We might do well not to build such an attachment in the first place, because by the time such a ship is built, the attachments are all obsolete. We might do well not to build the ship in the first place. All action is now in the Mediterranean and the PoW is sitting idle in Scapa Flow. -_-
July 25, 1940 - Medium Tank upgrade
July 27, 1940 - HMS PoW Floatplane upgrade

Mediterranean Submarine War:
July 24, 1940 - We sunk 11 Transports in the Sea of Gabes. The French appear to be outscoring us, because the tally is 25 Transports and 1 Escort.
RIP List:
July 19, 1940 - 1 Convoy Transport lost in the Sea of Sicily. This seems to be a very small loss given the start of a new war.
July 23, 1940 - HMS Royal Oak sunk off the coast of Malta by Italian Naval Bombers. They have 9 of them. This is no longer a small loss.
July 23, 1940 - HMS Delhi sunk off the coast of Malta by Italian Naval Bombers.
July 25, 1940 - We lost another 4 Convoy Transports in the Sea of Sicily.
July 28, 1940 - Another 4 Convoy Transports in the Sea of Sicily. We are slowly bleeding.
July 29, 1940 - HMS Malaya sunk off Coast of Benghazi by Italian Naval Bombers. That's 2 Battleships now.
August 1, 1940 - Paris is still in German hands, but has not yet surrendered. We are not yet sure how to process the exchange in the Mediterranean. We count:
2 BB and 1 CL from our side.
3 CL 5 DD 17 TP from their side.
We count about 9500 to 6500 in their favor.
Body Count:
239506 Personnel 1207 Fighters 125 Bombers - UK
900315 Personnel 1834 Fighters 1315 Bombers - France - They are fighting this war for us.
817819 Personnel 4632 Fighters 4626 Bombers - Germany
152282 Personnel 92 Fighters 152 Bombers - Italy
Here is the map. I believe I have been told that this is a USSR wins kind of map, simply because the US AI cannot help us.
This is a closer look at France.
It looks like they moved their capital and are somewhat reorganized. I was not sure when the Vichy event happens or what happens after. Probably after, we will never want to play a DH game with the Vichy event and learn how to do everything to avoid it.
