It's pretty servicable, as long as you define "multiplayer" as a 2 player game via direct connection.

Any more players, and you crash like a drunken teen on a Friday night.

Oh, and don't even bother trying to use chat mode...you'll see your desktop in quite a hurry.

By direct connection do you mean Peer to Peer Lan?

Oops...sorry, no...I meant direct internet connection via IP to IP...haven't tried LAN, but from what I understand from posters that do it, it has been pretty stable.

Thanks for the clarification, as I want to try it this weekend.

Haven't played multi on EU2 yet. Got that lined up for next weekend. Played a few on EU1 though. Much better than playing single player. The amount of backroom politics and double crossing is unreal! Diplomacy usually begins at least a week before the game starts, once everyone has decided who to play. We've played with three players in the past, but will be playing four next weekend. Alliances have been made and broken already!
Always played on LAN. No problems with speed.

Out of interest where are you based?

Ah, how have you managed to get four EU players in one location? I discovered about 16 in London after much effort over a year or so.
I have been hiring out internetcafes over a weekend to play games but its alot of effort

Ben

Great game in MP, but one huge frustration: a lot of people are excluded from playing this on college campuses to their friends who are off-campus. Suffice it to say, Microsoft Directplay has firewall issues and stuff.

Yeah, the firewall issue is keeping a lot of people from playing. It is kind of sad too when they all show up in v-net and none of them can join your game, and you can't join theirs:(
