My sad inability to play Crusader Kings 2.

Hi, so I had this little problem of mine with ck2 for about 2 years now, and I decided that it's finally time to do something about it.

The problem lies somewhere in saving the game. When I start the game everything is always fine. It's only when I play for, let's say, 150-200 years in game, that my game keeps crashing more often on autosaving (monthly autosaving, mind you) to the point when I can't play without reloading the game 5 minutes after I turned it on.

The irritating thing is - it never occured to me in the past. I could play for hours straight without a crash and I was even able to get to the XIIIth century (which is my record to this day, sad isn't it?). It all started arround the time when Monks and Mistics was announced.

It also may have something to do with the mods, because at the time it first happened I was using a couple of mods. But I did all I could do sever my ties with the mods - I unsubscribed all of my mods on Steam, I reinstalled the game many times and I also turned the steamcloud off. Doesn't look like it helped though.

I'd be very thankful for any kind of help. I love this game a lot, and the thought of wasting all the time spend on it as well as the money is just too frustrating.

If you use 32bit Windows, that is the cause of this problem, as it does not allow the game enough memory.

DXDIAG is a program you run from a command prompt or the Windows start menu 'run' dialog box (or 'search programs' in Windows 7 or later). After running it will open a window and start collecting info with a progress bar in the lower-left corner. When it completes click the 'save all information' button and save it to a file then attach that file here.

Please attach your Documents/Paradox/CK2/settings.txt.
From your Documents/Paradox/CK2/logs/ folder, attach system.log .

As I thought you have 32 bit Windows, which means half your installed memory is wasted:

Memory: 6144MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 3072MB RAM

You need to move to 64bit Windows to get use of that wasted memory. That will fix your CK2 problem too.

With 32bit Windows any app including this game can only use up to 2gb of memory, which is not enough any more. 64bit Windows has no such limit.

This procedure will raise that limit to 2.5gb; it will help with the game but might impact overall performance, as it reduces the memory available to Windows itself accordingly:

1: Open Command Prompt
2: Set it to be in Admin mode http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc947813(v=ws.10).aspx
3: Paste this in: bcdedit /set increaseuserva 2560
4: Restart
5: If you ever need to undo: BCDEdit /deletevalue increaseuserva

I'll be changing to 64 bit os soon then. Thanks again, maybe now I'll be able to play ck2 normally again.
