I simply wonder: Is there a connection between naval tech and the amount of settlers you get each year?
If so: which are the critical stages on the tech tree, when you get an extra colonist? (I went from 4 to 5 colonists a year, seemingly after a boom in my naval tech research.)

What can be done to raise the percentage of succession for colonising colonies? Does naval tech affect this percentage (or any other tech, like infastructure)
I find it reallyreally hard to colonise for example Santal or other delicious-looking provinces with high amounts of natives.

Nope. Naval tech doesn't increace number of colonists. You probably got an extra one because of increaced colonial dynamism.
In one way it does affect though... in you get to lev 16 naval tech, you can build shipyard: it gives you 1 extra colonist year (only first one, you may have 100 of them, you still get only 1 extra per year)

And it doean't increace success rate either. But having conquistador or explorer in the province helps and the higher manouver rate, the more it helps. If natives are highly aggressive, it's better to annihilate them though.
