I recentley re-downloaded EU2 from my Gamersgate. When I load up any Scenairo it abruptly crashes. I have no clue whats going on, there was never a problem previously. Any way I can figure out whats wrong? I don't even get an error message.

Please use meaningful thread titles in future, thanks.

No real idea what your problem is. Is this on the same machine you used to have it on, that worked OK? Or on a new machine?

When you say "any scenario", you mean any of the provided campaigns? That is, the Grand Campaign etc? What exactly happens, does the game start at all, or it crashes while loading?

Have you renamed the AVI directory? Have you installed any mods?

If it loads the main menu OK but crashes as soon as you click 'start' after selecting the scenario the first thing I'd check would be to make sure the resolution in settings.cfg is not higher than your monitor can handle.

i have the same problem, with the very same install that has worked previously - with both DD:A and EU2 (but not Vicky)

I have changed it to all availible, and it still doesn't work
and now my vicky install doesn't work either, the only change i've done is to install adobe and apple updates

I believe this thread adresses the same bug

What type of monitor are you using and what is its maximum resolution? What res are you running your desktop at?

I have the same problem. EUII used to work fine on my machine, but I just re-installed it, and it ctd's after clicking "Start" on any campaign or scenario.

I've tried all the resolution settings. Reducing to 16-bit got rid of some flashing intro screen, but made no difference to the crashing.

I'm using a Hansol CRT with a max res of 1280x768, although it's set to 1024x768.

Fortunately it seems to work OK on the laptop.

Thanks for any advice.

Please post your settings.cfg and the first couple pages of output from DXDIAG. Have you tried renaming the avi folder as AndrewT suggested earlier?

I am in the same predicament as the other users here.

I've played this game for nearly 5 years now, 2 of which were on this current computer, and as recently as 4 days ago. Since playing then, however, the game CTD's during the load of any scenario. I've since uninstalled everything, including the Age of Imperialism and AGCEEP mods, and reinstalled the game completely. With or without patching, I've tried both, the game CTD on loading a scenario.

I have the first few pages of output from running dxdiag, but I cannot open my settings.cfg file. What program should I use to do so? And here is the information; sorry if the appearance sucks.

Thank you all, by the way, for trying to help us. I really appreciate it :)

settings.cfg is just a text file; you should be able to open it with notepad.

Have you tried:
Rename the AVI folder so the movies don't load.
Set the desktop resolution to the same as the game resolution.
Set the desktop to 16-bit color.

Post the first couple pages of output from DXDIAG.
