So, apparently, in 2019, they will release 'Green Planet' a DLC that is not officially, wink wink, about terraforming. I didn't see anyone discussing it on here, but you can see it on the steam page (under the season pass screen), and they confirmed the name and that it isn't officially about terraforming (but its about terraforming) over on reddit.

Nice, but what I really want to see is the colonists expanded, families, culture, more things for them to do (in the late game), etc. IMO they're under-used.

God I HOPE NOT.... Serious terraforming, even if it is possible will take HUNDREDs of years. Would make for a boring game.

I'm not as skilled at the game since I just started playing it, but I reached 100 sols and my colony is just barely sustainable now with 200 colonists. If the mysteries are meant for mid-game then terraforming could be a fun late-game option for colonies that have 1000+ people and are probably on sol 200 or so. It's also sci-fi so some suspension of disbelief is there if it didn't take hundreds of sols to terraform. A future end-game mega-mystery would be fun too to add to the story-driven aspect. I'd also like to see more content for colonists.

Btw since 1 martian year is about two earthling years, terraforming Mars in 100 sols (a martian day, but also a year in the game) would be 200 Earth years, with future technology and some imagination — maybe possible in a few hundred years from now, in some way.

Well, they confirmed it over on the surviving mars reddit, and if you take a look at the steam page for the season pass, you’ll see it. So, hope doesn’t really enter into the equation.

As DominusNovus says:

I like the Terraforming Mars board game. In that you can crash comets into mars ro raise the temperature and atmosphere density.
"We don't use that moon anyway."

Would be cool to have some limited terraforming options, e.g. as props / buildings for domes, and some extra facilities outside related to local climate.

Seeing how individually it's more expensive than Space Race and Colony Design Set together I guess we should expect a lot more content with this one :)

I’d like to use the terran to my advantage. For example, on those canyon maps, just dome over the canyon. The real world proposal is to dome over Valles Marineris, which would be relatively easy and produce loads of living space.
