no sound on start

When I start the game there is no sound. Not just for the game but no sound for anything. After some looking around I found that the game is switching my computer settings from my normal speaker setting to headphones. I can get the sound back by plugging in headphones and then unplugging them. So I can work around the problem, but is there a more permanent solution for this?

Try this: Open Documents\East India Company\Config\options.txt with notepad and change sound_speaker_type from "headphones" to "stereo" and see if this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I had previously tried to type in quadaphonic speakers there, which is my setting and it had no effect. When I tried stereo it changed my setting to desktop stereo speakers. So it didn't work, but at least I now know that I am in the right place.

Your choices: headphones, stereo, mono, quad, surround and dolby.
