Hi,
I tried to find the answer here but couldn't so...

Playing as the King of Sicily I received a notice I had to go to the Crusades or lose Piety every month.

Questions are:
How much do I have to send to fullfil this request in regiments (% of those I have) & if all my troops are killed do I have to keep sending more?

Do my troops just need to land on the indicated location and control it?

Do they have to stay in that location & if so for how long?

And is there any way to get out of / affect this "Go or lose piety" event?

I had planned on expanding to Malta+ but don't know what the Crusade buisness means long term for me in time & gold.

Thanks in advance.

Edit- btw theres already a 1 "friendly" Regiment there, will my troops be able to merge with them & others? Jerusalem appears to consist of several provinces- do all of them have to be controlled?

You don't join the crusade as such :) .... you will loose piety every month until the crusade ends. While the crusade is going, you gain extra piety for defeating religious enemies .... doesn't matter if they are baltic pagans or muslims of Iberia.

The crusade ends by event ... to be successful, the crusade target has to be in christian hands. The more of the surrounding provinces are in christian hands, the sooner the event fires.

The ruler that holds the crusade target at the end of the crusade gains a massive piety boost.

Eventually if no christian ruler can hold the target, the pope will end the crusade.

The loss in piety depends on your size, to show that the pope expects more participation of the larger realms, but not much from a small count in Scotland.

So crusade time is an excellent time to make your own personal crusade against Malta, as you will gain extra piety from conquering that.

But besides the piety loss each month, there are no expectations for you to involve yourself in the battles in the Holy Land. If you can live with the piety loss (if not too large, you can counter it with more donations to the church), you don't have to field any troops.
