Spelling nitpick: the Norman guard in the intro are calm as "statutes", your Lordship? Methinks you have an extra "t" in that word, unless you really are comparing them to laws.

Thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou. :) Was hoping and praying someone would do an AAR with the dynasty I am perhaps most looking forward to playing. Great stuff.

A couple questions ...

Judging by your first screenshot, is Sichelgaita not considered Robert Guiscard's wife in 1066?

And comparing his stats, particularly military, against others in screens posted by Mork, it seems like Robert is a bit lackluster. Did you find that to be true in actually playing him?

Extremly well written AAR, thank you "MY LORD"! I hope you still have some you will post if the right time has come (already forsee the "can we get another AAR" :D ).

You are truly the Lord of AARland. Excellent story. :)

That was an extremely pleasant and well-written AAR. Thank you for sharing. And... one has to wonder how does the crusade go?

Powerslave, J.J.E., Seidita, horragoth, Zanza: Thanks for the comments. Glad you all enjoyed it.

richvh: "one little mistake..." Good catch. Sometimes spellchecker works too well. :)

DaPacemDomine: Yes, she was. AFAIK the setup will be corrected. Either way, I still opted for the historical accuracy. And yes, I thought Robert was a bit undervalued. That was especially true during the invasion of Syracuse when they were almost routed, even with overwhelming numbers. That's why I wrote it as a hit & run campaign instead of a pitched battle.

Duke of Saxony: Thanks. There are plans... ;)

hjarg: Thank you for reading. Good question you posed. Perhaps one day it will be answered. ;)

Ah...glad to see that Johan moved this from the beta forum. It's been a distinct pleasure to read it and I can only hope that once the floodgates are opened we may be treated to even more of your extraordinary writing skill. :)

Oh thank you Lord Durham for this AAR :D I mostly intrested in some bits, and scimed bits as a person that generaly dosnt like reading long things like that its quiet really great, but a bit to wordy for me lol.

But excellent detail and nice screenies to compliment the AAR.

Well done..

Hmm, quite intriguing. A pity the Normans could only grab Sicily while the Sicilians were fighting the Venetians though. I;d have though they'd do a better job at fighting.

A great AAR and welcome glimpse of the game in action.

One question, at the end when Mark Bohemund is put aside, how did that happen? Did you change the succession laws? And did he then remain part of your dynasty?

I don't suppose there's a chance of a sequel, with Mark Bohemund carving his own kingdom in the Holy Land, is there? ;)

Not sure how it's handled in-game, but historically Bohemond was overlooked. I expect the succession law in place in Norman Sicily at scenario's start bars bastards from succeeding. Besides, as the good Prince Bishop ;) alluded, it leaves Bohemond free to carve out a Crusader kingdom for himself, namely in Antioch. Would be interested to know if you continued the game, Lord Durham, to try for that historical prize?

Lord Durham, it was a real treat to read another of your AARs at last, even if it's an uncharacteristically short one. You gave us a marvelous glimpse into the life of a royal family in that time, complete with many hints of all manner of intrigue.

I think my favorite part of the story was the Saracens' negotiations with the Venetians, followed by the conversation aboard the Venetian flagship. Sweet indeed! :)

Wow, that was great!

You should consider writing historical fiction and giving up your day job.

I wonder if the game will allow us to change from the dynasty we are playing to a dispossessed heir who attempts to carve out their own kingdom or if this was excellent poetic license outside the mechanics of the game.

I know, I know, NDA and I will find out in the fullness of time. :)

Chris: Thanks a bunch. The best is yet to come, right? :D

KonigMaximilian: Thank you for skimming it. ;) However, that's my style and I don't plan on altering it anytime soon. :)

Gjerg Kastrioti: The Saracens were a tough nut to crack. Another problem was the treasury, something I alluded to at one point. Keeping the troops in the field was draining the coffers at an alarming rate -- such as it should. Historically, it took about 30 years to claim all of Sicily, anyway.

Deaghaidh: That was part of the story I never really got to, thanks to some save game issues. You could probably see that I was setting up the inevitable power struggle, though. Perhaps if I can duplicate my successes I can carry on...

DaPacemDomine: I don't neccessarily subscribe to the 'bastard' theory. There is some confusion as to Robert's first wife. Most name her as Alberada of Burgundy, who was quite well connected. However, other sources have her as Aubrée of Benevento, obviously lesser well-known. I like the idea that Gaita -- who was an exceptionally strong-willed woman for her time -- engineered the succession in favor of her own son, Roger Borsa. As for part two of your question, there's a fair chance I may revisit this AAR in the future and carry on from the fourth post.

Languish: Thanks. Er, is this the real Languish... ? ;)

jwolf: It IS short, isn't it? I have to admit I kind of liked the byplay with the Venetians, too.

crazy canuck: You are very kind. I DO write on the side, though these damned Paradox games tend to take up more of my time than they should. :D As for part two of your question, I really shouldn't say anything ATM.
