NOT A BUG : Are automatic _ middle names for characters not working?

Looking at the cultures.txt file, it seems several names exist that are supposed to come with middle names, separated by an _. However, none of my people have ever generated a character with a middle name. Indeed, in the list of Irish names, Eógan_Ewan is listed, but not Eógan alone... yet in-game, I have several Eógan but none with the middle name Ewan. It seems like it's processing these names, but not passing along the middle name after the _.

Edit: Oh, wait, those aren't middle names, those are alternates, I guess. What are they used for?

The alternates are there to link them with names in other cultures. So for example if you have Henry I of England and someone with name Henrik becomes king of England some point his numbering will be right and is called Henrik II.

Indeed. Although "Magnus_Magnus" or "Ulf_Ulf" seems a bit redundant? Do we need to link identical names in a culture-group for them to actually work? Got two cultures with practically identical names, so will have a lot of doubles in there then. Heh.

Yes, indentical names need to be linked else the game won't recognize them as being the same. So if there is a Danish Magnus and a Norwegian Magnus then both need to be linked, so you get Magnus_Magnus and Magnus_Magnus.
